Ok this is a big one for me.. I cant stand seeing rust spots
As im just starting out on my build im kean to stop as much as possible...

I have the rose joint suspension, and im worried about them corroding..! is this a problem?
they look zinc coated to me? which generally doesnt last?

What are the parts of the car most corrosion appears and what can i do to stop it?
(e.g drill holes and paint to stop water 'resting')

thanks again,
G

Hi Graeme,
My engine in out at the mo, so I've been crawling around in the engine bay taking out hoses etc. Mine has done 5K, a couple of trips caught in serious storms, and like you I hate to see rust, so feared the worst.

Well I'm pleasantly surprised, no chips to the powercoated chassis, no scrapes to the under tray. Just a couple of scars to the seat bolts (the lowest thing on the car) and a tear of rust where the rear bracket for accusump is drilled through the chassis member.

Water is not really a problem on the rear of the vehicle, what does come in is evaporated v. quickly. Water is only a prob for me in the section next to the battery tray (where I keep the gravel). But as this is ali, and sealed from the steel - it ain't a prob.

Only other thing is to seal the lower floor welds with PU.

Hope that helps.

Pete

PS - learm to love waxoyl!!

Whoa!! I really really want that... sounds awesome!

Nice to here no problems Pete!.. ive noticed on some cars the flanges the a-arms bolt onto seem to suffer? with the powder coating seeming to lift off?

I get what you mean. I bet that might be from any slight 'easing' of the flanges when the wishbones are gently tapped into place - cracking the 'power' coat!!

I have that problem with mine. It is the same for any paint or powder process.
What is happening is you are coating a sharp edge and as the coating drys or cures it becomes very thin at that point. Once there is any break in the film rust will start and lift the coating off an ever widening area. To avoid this the edge should have been radiused before the finish applied (note to Factory).
