Thought it might be of help to mention that the setup shown in your info as hotrod with the Alt down low can be duplicated using the GTO pulleys all but the power steering and Renegade in Las Vegas makes a blank to substitude for that. Thats how we did the LS1 for my GTR. Rowdy Renault

Fell just short of what you wanted there. Still you have the bolt sizes but not the positions.

This interests me. I'd rather not use the hotrod set up. Is the GTO alt low down position the same as on the F body and is it a smaller alternator. I have an install where I could do with a smaller alternator, mounted low down. I don't need to have air so can mount the alt on either side of the block.

Yes the altenator is on the left hand, driver(USA) side low the a/c is on the other side but it uses a seperate belt so no problem eliminating the A/C. You do need a blank pulley to take up the posistion of the power steering pump. Renegade in Las Vegas modifies a standard mount to accomplish that. The whole setup is typical factory with great rap around all of the pulleys. Hope that helps. Rowdy Renault

Cheers Rowdy, so it's a camaro like installation. Do you know if there's a small alternator to fit in place of the stock alternator?

Hi Simon,

Looks like your installation is going well. Made my decision to go down the LS route myself too. As Andy Burrows says - it's a no brainer!

Going to use an LS7. Dont suppose anyone knows if someone has mapped one of these with an Emerald do you? I have a brand new Emerald in the garage from another project, so planning to use that rather than the GD supplied ECU.

No idea why the factory will not support the LS engines. If they did I would be buying the parts from them rather than Gardner Douglas.. Crazy! Will be interesting to see if they change their minds when the new emmission rules come in.

Cheers,

Mart

Speak to Jeff Schwartz, he did a magnacharged LS2 for me and has done a few LS7's for others..... he has a Twin Turbo'd LS Ultima himself.

boosted: Never looked for a smaller altenator. Fiqured the standard altenator would work well with the Motec ECU that I am using. You mentioned Camaro I caution you that we used all GTO stuff and it worked without a problem. Probably the Camaro stuff would work but I wouldn't want to mix and match. Corvette has a diferent back spacing and the altenator sets up high on the left side. The Motec that I am refering to is a new option from Motec its is gang fired and not all the options as the rest of Motec"s stuff. But it is cheaper and the same great quality. They also offer a wiring harness for the ls1 or ls2. My engine builder builds offroad trucks for the baja 1000 and at least one for next years Paris to Dakar. He has done several LS7 so far and has had great sucsess remaping the Delphi ECU that is available from General Motors. Rowdy

Thanks Rowdy, I usually use the camaro set up but am familiar with vette parts. Batch fired is nice and convenient and will work well. I used to love my motec. It was so old it had a hand held calibrator as well as lap top functions.

The Delphi MEFI unit is a primitive batch fired, speed density unit used in GM Marine engines and some of the GEN 1 and BBC crate engines. Work like crap on the crate engines. We use the GM Car ECU, actual ZO6 unit for the LS7, or Camaro GTo for LS1/6 . Fully sequential, AC anticipate signals, much better driveability and idle quality. With the Mass Airflow sensor adjusting for the air going in, it's spot on all the time.
For highly modded we use Accel DFI or Big Stuff 3.
