Just completed masking up the front canopy so that i can spray the insides. It seems to take forever and i found myself having the same feelings as when i was doing the ali panelling. After a while it becomes extremely tedious but at completion i had a strange feeling of satisfaction and well being, it's a shame i shall be ripping it all off in a weeks time.
I also finished the pre fit of my non factory gauges at the weekend, i will post some pics when i get 5 minutes.

NEW YEAR RESOLUTION - Get my finger out and do some serious work on the car.

Happy New Year to you all.

Dave

Not required to tape up just spray and clean off with thinners, much quicker.

I did the same as Simon. Spray away and clean off the over-spray with brake cleaner.
Did a similar technique with window and headlight glasses i.e. no masking. Pressed them into the mastic then wiped of the excess and smoothed over with brake cleaner.

No problems with the gel coat losing colour?

Steve, do you think the brake cleaner would remove the black edging paint if it had been on there a while?

The paint will not touch the gel colour nor will the cleaner.

What 'edging paint' would that be?

The black paint that goes on the inside of the light covers (around the edges). not the nice pin striping that i will be doing. hehe

I doubt the cleaner will work on that paint. If it is the right stuff it has an etching quality which allows it to bond to glass and perspex.
Do make sure you use the correct stuff. Others have used various paints and had light covers and windows come out after time.

Just finished spraying the inside of the front canopy. glad i masked it up as there wasnt much control of the splatter, i used 3M anti stone chip paint rather than the Sperex that the factory use. very pleased with the finish, looks quite good , even if i do say so myself.

If the lower edges of the front clip are on a flat floor, there seems to be an issue with the curved element of the front edge and inturn the wheel arch symetrics, or is it an optical illusion?

I believe the Footwear Super Sale is at the Brantano warehouse in Walsall - you better hurry, they only have 1 million pairs left.

Ian, its an optical illusion the rear edge of the clip is raised and the front left corner was also resting on something, a cat or some such thing but thanks for the concern (www.specsavers.co.uk ) nerd
