Wheel Studs turn in hub
Discussion
Hmmm...tacking it in place?....wouldn't that cause an imbalance on the hub/wheel possibly causing a vibration? To get your balance back, you'll have to balance the wheel/tire ON the car. Not sure how much that could affect it during normal driving, but at high speeds it could make a difference.

I think it would be too close to centre of rotation to make a noticeable difference. Plus, if each stud had a spot weld in the same place the difference would be even less.

Don'tknow what your hub looks like but generally speaking studs should be screwed in hand tight and bottom out on the shoulder. You could loctite them in place. Then fit the wheel and use a smidgen of copperslip on the wheel nuts. The studs shouldn't unscrew when you undo the wheel. Is there any corrosion on the wheel nut thread?

It is highly unusual for these to come loose and there must be some serious wear or damage to allow this to happen. Either that or you have the wrong studs (standard Granada type right?) Normally the splined studs are pressed in (ideally by fly press) but it can be done using an old wheel nut, some washers and a lot of grunting
I would inspect the hub & studs carefully and if damage is evident, replace them - a spot weld can only be regarded as a temporary repair (or bodge depending on your viewpoint) Don't compromise though - it's your safety at stake here.

They are ford studs and so do not screw in but are knocked on and have an interference fit....
Thanks for that, are they splined then?

Yes splined.
The hubs are Ford Granada but the studs are extra long to cope with the alloy rims.
Steve
Know the type, thanks for that.
