sidelight bulb needs >=12V ?

So one front sidelight on the Sport works. I took apart the other one. My multimeter shows 10.9V from the positive wire going into the bulb holder across to earth. It also shows 12.66V across the battery. If I put the multimeter on the earth terminal in the bulb holder then across to earht, it also shows 10.9V. So there's 10.9V across the bulb but it doesn't light. Nor does its replacement. Why not ?

Sounds like you have lost your earth from the bulb holder. Your 10.9 volts is measuring through the bulb. Take out the bulb and measure again from earth to earth. Or you could do a continuity check on the ohms scale from earth to earth should be O ohms. Take the bulb out for both checks.

Sounds like you've got a high resistance dodgy connection in there somewhere. If the battery voltage is over 12V but it drops to 11 or less when you put a multimeter across it there is something far wrong. When you put the bulb in it will draw thousands of times the current that your meter does and the resistance shoots up. You'd get that effect if there was only water bridging contacts for example.

Yep, correct. Waggling the wiring under the front-clip results in a lit bulb. It's a dodgy connection down near the multi-plug. Remember now the clip self-shut a few weeks back with a bit of a thump that obviously hurt this connection.
