Alternative brake set ups
Discussion
I had a set of Hi Spec 300mm Monster 4-pots made for the front. They fitted 15” front rims. But on pricing up the rear. It more economic to replace the whole system with the factory AP set-up.
BUT
I visited the factory yesterday because the rear callipers would not centralise on the disc. I am now in the position of having the machine the rear uprights to fit the factory kit.
It will point out that my car is a 96 sport. The modification on the uprights started around 2000.
Having now replaced the 15/17 with 17/18” rims the whole experience have been very expensive. I talked with Bob Green at BG developments regarding a custom one. It worked out about the same as the factory
You pay your money and takes your chance!
Off to the machine shop with the uprights!

I know that some Ultima owners out there have non factory option brakes and was wondering what combinations have been found to work and how folk have gone about it?
I have Highspec Megamonster 6 (6 piston) all around with Performance Friction 355 discs. Perfomance? Can't compare to factory spec but they sure do stop the car... They are "slim" so I have even been able to fit a 17" wheel over them for my set of Mickey Thomson drag radials.

now that sounds like a very nice setup!! digger discs and calipers, plus more wheel room!
how much where they if you dont mind me asking? are they off the shelf or was custom stuff needed?
thanks Chris.

Discs, calipers and pads set you back 3600£ and then you need bells and brackets. Stock brakelines works.

Wayne, if you're that keen you can always go for larger AP 6 pots or if you're really keen go for some Porsche PCCB discs...
Funnily enough, that's exactly what I have done on the GTW, A.P. six pots all round, 362 X 32 discs and A.P. master cylinders. My enquiry is pertaining to another Ultima project.
The trouble is it will end up costing a boat load of money to do your own setup. I went for my own brake setup. The only reason, I can see, to do something different is to go to a larger size disc and caliper. However, you really can't take full advantage of a larger setup with this narrow of a front tire. You will also need larger uprights.
