Hi Guys,

After putting up with clutch slip on what is actually a new clutch - hoping it would bed itself in (or something), it was removed last week and examined to determine what's going on.

The man from Helix reckons the clutch is slipping because the friction plate is actually too thick - that the one in the kit must have been mis-matched.

It's an older style clutch - the ring gear is on the clutch cover and has the rubber doughnut in the middle of the friction plate. Currently it measures 9.6mm in a compressed state whereas it should measure 8mm.

This is all new to me, hopefully it will make sense to someone out there? If so, can you let me have the part number of the right friction disc and/or a decent distributor who won't start every call with "what Porsche is it?".

Thanks,

Dave.

Not sure I hold with the clutch disc being too thick, theory!
I developed clutch slip on trackdays, but only after several laps, when I pulled the clutch I noticed slight blueing on the flywheel face but only on the outer edges. Had the flywheel checked by local motorsport engineers, "it wasn't flat" and had to be machined. No problems since!
Might be worth checking while you have it apart. I have an old disc in the workshop i'll look for the Sachs part number, unless anyone else has it.
