Has anybody had success with fitting a concealed aerial ? It's not essential for me to have absolutely perfect FM for audio but my GPS system uses RDS and can't find Classic FM (the station it requires for traffic alert information). I tested a Blaupunkt amplified screen style aerial when I dry fitted the system and that worked OK (having been placed haphazardly on top of the cockpit area), but now having mounted it to the underside of the cockpit section (thinking G/F would not hinder it much) the unit won't pick up the station, and is poor to middling for other FM stations. Has anybody else done similar with success ? Serves me right for trying to be a smart ass !

I have mounted GPS ribbon type aerial between the top of the roll cage and obviously under the GRP roof.It may be that if you have mounted under the roll cage it will not work due to its path being obstructed but GRP will not obstruct.

I had many internal ariels incl boosted ones and the radio never worked.... only on the day I sold the car I found that it was entirelly down to the STACK dash causeing the problem!!!!!

I'd investigate installing some surpressors.

You could try one of these VHF fibreglass tape aerials - bond them to the inside of the panels with impact adhesive. They certainly work very well in aircraft with poor suppression. You would need to check if they are sufficiently broadband for your needs though. They can be purchased from the UK aircraft spruce retailer.

I fitted a tape type aerial to the underside of the dash above the windscreen wiper motor. It does not work very well. The factory use a 'Rubber Duck' type aerial and mount it upright in beside the door gas strut.

I have a standard ~50cm aerial mounted horizontally under the front dash (just in front of the heater) and that works fine. I have a GDX-40 GPS unit sitting up between the two roll cage struts, so the GPS antena (which folds out from the back of the unuit) is right near the chassis. I pick up the GPS signal very clearly, but again, it is up at the top of the car, so no metal gets between it and the satellites!

Craig - is that aeiral amplified ? What's the quality of your FM reception ?
