Hi
I have been looking in the classifieds for some time now and need to know if it's nessasary to have a LSD and dry sump on the GTR.Does the drysump help with the cooling?.The cars i have seen all have around 530 bhp. My current toy has both but only weighs around 430 kgs it has 180 bhp @ wheels with the engine up front (mk indy Hybusa). It's ok for a quick 1/2 hrs blast around but any longer buzzes your head off.I may sell the mk so will want to do the odd track day in the ultima. The reason for my question is i don't want to spend £45+k on a car and the have to add these.

Regards

Craig

Not sure how much power you are aiming for, that might change things - my Sport has the 'base' 360 bhp and I don't have or want an LSD or dry sump. I've found my car magnificent on road and track. I moved up from a 170bhp zetec powered Sylva Phoenix, similar enough to the MK, and have found the Ultima to be a different kind of beast. Less chuckable / experimentable / instructive on track. But a lot faster and with superb brakes and just as communicative on grip through the corners. Slightly more robust too. Not buzzy on long journeys, just drills along, very satisfying - shame about the fuel cost - kind of rules out the Nurburgring for me !

both of these devices are associated with cornering

a dry sump is for high G conering so the engine dosn't get staved of oil

only you can say if you are going to need this

LSD is used for power in the corner

if you come into the corner and are not likley to plant the accelerator in you driving style

then yuo dont need an LSD

you carry the speed through and just start to gently accelerate out of the corner

the acceleration will be slightly less but more controlled and less costly on tyres

then there is the other style of driving that gets the power on as early as possiable

with reduced grip on a non lsd car the inside trye will spin there will be less downforce on the back end and the whole thing goes a bit pete tong due to poor throttle control

with the LSD you still get the constant of dynamic friction pussing the car forward from both wheels and makes drifting a lot easier so sliding the car around to scrub of speed becomes a bit easier and transfer of the weight is a bit easier

really depends if you have a problem with that right foot for the LSD i know i do

I have both fitted.

I have never had a problem with oil starvation with the dry sump - 4+ bar constant pressure.

I orignally didn't have the lsd, and after a rather hair raising episode of some sideways action, decided to get one fitted (Quaife ATB gear type), this has definately improved the stability of the car under heavy acceleration.

My GTR will probably be up for sale shortly as well, due to the wifes desire for home-expansion, so watch the classifieds, or email me if you want some early details...
