Mercedes Benz S600 engine into Ultima....

Hey guys, I was just thinking. Why not put the Mercedes benz S600 engine into the Ultima, its the same exact engine as the Pagani Zonda one just 6.0 instead of 7.3. Also on the OBD1 S600 engines you can get a chip for $150 that will add 30-40HP, add that to intake + custom exhaust with custom headers, you could easily get an additional 80-100HP just on the basics alone (V12 tuning is pretty insane compared to V8 tuning, even the simplest of mods made tremendous results). The S600 engines go on ebay for $3k all day long. The only real issue would probably the fitment its a wide engine so i dunno how well it would fit. But if someone were to put it in an ultima and do the Pagani zonda style quad-center exits it would be a real show stopper . just a suggestion.

may be the same size but i am sure the internals arnt the same

these engines are designed to be smooth cruisers

the blocks are probly the same that is all

then you need to modify the engine

and in the uk an engine of that age will nneed cats

no im not saying convert it over to a 7.3L. The engines do not take much at all to get alot of power. You can keep it in its 6.0L form and still add some serious power to it with very little work.

They start with 408bhp on early cars (circa 91-92), then went down to about 390, then something like 370(?) on the newer shape S-class. Then 500 with the turbos

yes, but how heavy are they in comparison to the V8 blocks most use in the Ult?
Also, what gearbox would match up to it well?

If you look at the Lotec Sirius on the front page, under car reviews, you'll see that it uses this engine, with twin turbos, and is hooked up to a CIMA transaxle, which are suitably robust to cope with the torque, but usually have a substantial price tag attached (though not as bad as a Hewland!)

Of course it can be done, and would make a nice car, but, it's yet to be done, and the SBC is so easy to work on, and has more custom aftermarket parts/support than you can shake a stick at...

Still, I'd like to see one installed...

they start out between 390-408 HP but they are extremely chocked off engines from the factory. chip, intake, exhaust should yeild at least an easy 80HP on the stock internaled engine. just a suggestion it would be sexy to see the pagani zonda like ultima GTR .

What about the Audi W12 engine?

The problem with V12 engines is that they are rather long resulting in poor half shaft angles. The W12 is very compact, but maybe it's too wide. I heard someone fitted it into a Pantera.

Maybe you could convert the gearbox to 2WD so you could get the tiptronic as well and have gearshift on the steering wheel.

I am comeing to the end of a 5 year Ultima build and as a result have a highly modified and altered Ultima.One thing I have learned over time is that modifying takes time and money (to much of both) so unless you are really determined to install a radical motor/transmission combo that has as yet not been tried,don't bother,lifes to short.Get it built and use it!
