Air filter

Hi,

I'm nearing the end of my 18 month(!!) EFI conversion project and just discovered that my K&N drop-base filter doesn't fit. Doh!

Does anyone have a standard K&N filter base lying around gathering dust that they'd be prepared to part with? I have a 1 1/4" drop-base filter base/top I can p/x (bought an X-stream top thinking the base was fine). The standard base leaves the filter element about 1/2" higher than the mounting on the top of the carb. The drop-base filter is standard supply on American Speed engines.

Dave,
for my installation I bought a 1" carb spacer from Real Steel to raise filter - I hadn't enough clearance from throttle body linkage even with a flat base. Plastic spacer only a few quid, but you'll need to make up longer filter stud to suit.

Hi Dave got a plenum and some 3" hose to move the filter into the side pod spare (cold air pickup) if you are interested .simon

George: Thanks for the heads up. Measured things carefully again today and right enough even a filter that's raised 9/16" is going to have difficulty clearing the top of the throttle arm... what were Holley thinking? My throttle linkage doesn't help either. I've got the cable coming in quite high through a rose joint and the return spring is high an level with the middle hole on the throttle arm. Keeps everything smooth and as linear as I can make it but it does make for problems with the air cleaner. I'll hunt out a new cleaner and a spacer.

Simon: Bit concerned about the flow rate of a plenum and a remote filter. Was hoping my X-stream filter top close to the roof of the car would give it pretty cool air once on the move. Suspect that the throttle linkage might foul up on the plenum as well. Thanks for the offer though.
