Swirl Pot (Water) Connections and mounting height...

Can anyone remind me (as I was a numpty & forgot to label them) which of the 2 smaller hoses connects to the upper and lower connections on the water swirl pot, i.e. does the cross over pipe to the expansion tank connect to the top or the bottom ???

Also, if I move the swirl pot upwards 3 or 4 inchs, will I also need to move the expansion tank up as well???

All this is in aid of fitting my new heat exchanger & many a choice word was spoken when it wouldn't fit the way I planned, hence plan B...

Hi Peter,

Bottom connection is the return from the radiator, top goes to the (bottom of) expansion tank.

Though I'll still have to mount the swirl pot higher to fit the heat exchanger in and that means even more plumbing :-( ,maybe I should change jobs after this 'mission' is over as I'll be a pro with the hoses by then...

I have just fitted my oil/water cooler and I've laid it flat in front of the near side fuel tank as per Ultimacz set up.

Hi Graeme, I thought about CZ's install as well, but it would mean shifting a lot of fuel related bits and pieces, and general faffing about.

Also if I mount it vertically, I'll have much fewer bends in the hoses, and the 1/8 NPT hole for releasing any trapped air will be uppermost.

What type did you go for? A Mocal/Laminova/Setrap circular core type or ?? (I've got a custom US jobby, expensive, but looks the business)

I went for the Mocal Laminova (330mm), best deal was from Burton Power online. I'm not running factory set up for fuel pumps so that space was going begging, have to agree that there is abit more pipework to contend with but doesn't that mean that I have a bit more heat dissipation?

I've finally got it all in there, well, the water side of things anyway, at least the oil connections won't be such a problem (fingers crossed!). The swirl pot fitted just nicely under the chassis/rollcage strut, so at least I can fill it up easy enough, just hope that the other pot doesn't 'overflow', otherwise I'll probably have to remount it a bit higher as well. Plus I have a nice big gap to work with when I need to refit the dry sump pump & hoses...

Graham, if you're relying soley on a wee bit of extra hose to keep your temp's down, I think you'll need a new rad or uprated fans at least !!!!
Did you get an oil temp sender & gauge as well? I got one from the factory, but the surround is a differant colour to my original ones, so I think I'll mount it out of general viewing range...


With a little luck, the car should be, err, 'resurrected' by Sunday...

I have uprated my fans to Pacet, the DigiDash I'm using has an oil temp facility I'm going to run without a themostat and see how the temps go.
