I can't see a pcv valve so if there isn't one it's very likely to leak oil.

I think Steve is refering to the extra breather added to the fuel pump blanking plate.

Isn't that one on the rear of the RH rocker cover? Looks like my one anyway.

So I take it that the breather on the fuel pump blanking plate lets fresh air into the crankcase and the filler cap (where air normally gets admitted) is sealed, is that correct?

What is the advantage of letting air into the crankcase here? Is it a oil aeration issue? Or is it just a way of getting better filtration of the air into the crankcase than the brillo pad in the filler cap provides !

Blimey £50 quids worth of aeroquip fittings - must at least 400psi of crankcase pressure behind that puppy. Best not show scabby hose i'm using!

I was looking at the elbow at the back of the rocker cover. If it's not a PCV it should be.

It is a PCV, at least that's what it says so on the invoice

Good news Gary, but will that red block clash with your yellow bodywork!?!

PCV - does that not stand for Positive Crankcase Ventilation. Does that mean a breather to the outside, or a suction device to pull air from the crankcase (the latter I would think but proper engine guys should know). What Gary and I have is three breathers in total, one on the fuel pump blanking plate and two in the rocker covers. All three of mine go back to the breather catch tank that I now have three inports and three outports on. I have run with that setup all last year and had absolutely now oil leaks at all - a first for me!

There should be a breather with a one way valve restricting the flow of air into the crancase. There would also be a pipe connected to the inlet manifold. The engine casing is then in a state of vacuum as the manifold sucks really hard but air into the casing is restricted by the pcv valve. Sometimes the breather into the engine is a tiny pin hole and the one way valve is fitted inline between the manifold and a breather on the rocker cover. This is a very usful system as if you have a dodgy seal air will be drawn inwards to the engine instead of allowing oil to piss out. You would probably notice an increase in revs at idle. A pcv system also allows contaminated air from the crankcase to be burned inside the combustion chambers instead of stinking out your cockpit.

Give it a suck and a blow then You will need a restriction somewhere in the circuit if it is a pcv valve.
