water temperature sendor

Where is the water temperature guage's sensor/sendor on my Sport's chev 5.7L ZZ4 ?
On arrival at work the fans were running but the guage was only reading 50, and the oil was 50 too. So it wasn't fully warm. just wondering if it's possible to have an air bubble (first time I've used the heater in a while) near the sensor ? Or perhaps more likely an electrical fault.

As your water and oil were the same and conditions today would not cause an overheat then I would suspect the stat on the rad that turns the fans on. A more remote cause could be a short in the override switch if you have one.

It's not the temp sensor that switches on the fans. It's a thermostatic switch in your rad that does the switching. Wait till it's cold and check it's not a short circuit. If it is change the switch. Don't know if you have an overide switch but make sure it's not on.
