Starter motors

I have the gearbox off my GTR at present & note that if the starter motor needed to be replaced the gearbox would have to be removed. So im thinking of adapting it so removal of the box is not required. To save me trial & ERROR has anybody done this & can offer some pointers.

What exactly is your setup? I have a G50/00 box and the starter can be removed quite easily with the box on. You just remove two bolts and pull off towards the back of the car.

I have a canton winged sump & the bottom mounting bolt on the starter motor is tight up against the sump, so much that a tapered headed allen key bolt is used. With the gearbox attached to the engine, there is no room to get an allen key onto the bolt and definetely no room to undo the bolt.
Any ideas welcome.
