Clutch Cross-Shaft installation in G50
Discussion
It should slide right into the needle bearing so don't hit it.
1/2" is it not engaging in the bearing so try moving the clutch release arm at the same time as inserting the shaft. The way you have installed your elastic band may be pulling the arm to one side. How are you holding the shaft? a length of studding is ideal as you can use that to try and point the shaft where you want it.
Sorry I can't pop round and help you.

A couple of years ago the factory loaned me a tool to help with the clutch pivot shaft instalation. The shaft has a thread in one end and the tool consitisted of a piece of rod with the right thread on the end. You screwed this rod into the end of the shaft so that you could easily manipulate the shaft into place.

5" will be long enough.
I think you call it 'allthread' or something like that we call it 'studding'.

The factory tool actually had a piece of aluminuium rod about 15mm diameter and 100m long that acted as a handle, with a short (10mm) threaded rod in the end. The tool made it easier to manipulate the shaft in to place, but you obviously still had to have the bearings in the right place.
The other question to ask is if the shaft fitted ok with the gearbox off the engine, as I believe Porsche changed the bearing size/design at some point. (This is based on my G50 experience, don't know anything about the Getrag 6 speed)
