sport or gtr

Hi
I'm about to purchase a well known sport (the one with the gull wing doors)I'm a new member so any help would be appreciated,the car is imaculate and is a credit to the person who built it and the current owner dave.One of my questions is are there any products that will procect the wheels and polished aluminium to stop the corrosion.Apart from the shape whats the difference between a sport and a GTR.

Hi craig, Image Wheels of Tipton have an aluminium wheel polish which also protects the wheels from corrosion. If you have the original factory wheels on the sport they may well have been made at Image as i believe they used to supply Ultima. I havent got the number for image but ask for Harry when you get through.

FYI, I'm very jealous of the doors on that Sport!!!

As for the wheels, I think the rims are enamel coated, but the center parts don't seem to be... can any else confirm this???

I'm using all Autoglym products on mine, and they have 2 types of wheel cleaner, 1 for enamel/coated alloy and 1 for the bare alloy...

I also have a tube of their metal polish, but it says to not use on mirror finished surfaces...

There was a post about a guy who wax's the Bug Veyron for £5k, and more 'meer mortal' cars for £500!!! Maybe you'd consider that!!!

Not a lot.
There will be bracketry changes for body to chassis and the wheels are a different size. The running gear is very similar. The engine and 'box will most likely be different as the norm was Rover V8 and Renault 'box.

I have a GTR but still like the shape of the sport.

I think the recent owner Dave changed the wheels to polished ones?
I like my car clean but don't fancy spending a week rubbing away at the wheels.

THat would be Barry Edge's old car then I guess? A huge amount of work in that car which is a great example of the marque.

As for the wheels, once they're clean/polished, use a resin wax on them or even a good wipe with a light oil. It won't stop them from becomig dirty, but it will help act as a barrier against oxidisation which causes the white 'bloom' on the ally.

Then everytime you clean the car, give them another coat.

The only alternative is to lacquer them. But it tends to flake off in time and lokos 10 times worse than the bare ally would.
