Targa Tasmania pics

I was thinking about posting these in the gallery, but couldn’t remember the rules to them.

These are currently up on the Targa Tasmania web site, they are from the 2004 event, and are of the car that Guy Bedington was driving. The 2006 event will be starting in a couple of weeks.

Did they make any suspension mods for tarmac rallying ?? Such as spring rates, increased travel, etc ??

sorry, its not my car i just found the photos on the web. if you want you can look through the rest of the albums on the targa site and see weather you think it would be nessesary, probably not to many corners you can cut safely

Tarmac rallies on public roads..... bumps, potholes, ridges.. all taken at spped, you need additional wheel travel, possibly softer spring rate with stiffer dampening.... secondary and backroads, at least in Canada are not smooth...

Not quite true, it used to be, lot's of travel and compliance but then someone realised if taken at speed with stiff springs, high damper rates and short travel the car would skip several holes rather than ride them but maximise grip on the bits when attached!

The car in the pics on my site seems to use larger 6 pot ap brakes. Standard ultima uprights, rose jointed wishbones and what look like koni shock absorbers with remote mount external nitrogen/gas canisters to allow a greater amount of oil in the shock absorbers, this would allow the shocks to function properly at the higher duty cycles that would likely occur in a tarmac rally situation.

The roads that are used for the Targa Tasmania are a combination of the highways and major main roads for the area. They are not to bad in terms of condition, reasonably smooth and most of the pot holes are largely on the main driving line, not on the racing line. Great roads for driving on, there are lots of twists and changes in elevations which can catch cars out, viewing video of the event you will regularly see cars getting a little airborne over the various crests.
