GTRene said:Well, it does have some special parts: GT1 tranny, Ti diff, Brodix engine with lots of Ti and Mg inside (see www.grasser-racing.com/ultimaspec.htm for more on the engine; but note that it looks like some of the specs changed and then they placed their race-cars.com ad...or they’re giving the wrong info on some things

), 380mm brakes, 100L ATL cell, Motec (not carburetor), CF roof? (or is this just the ugly, lift-producing airscoop they added, visible only in the profile photos of the car?), customized suspension, custom (alum?) radiator, a HUGE 180A alternator (but why so much on a racing vehicle w/o stereo, etc., only ignition & necessities??), NACA ducts into engine bay and next to the radiator (and extra inlets below headlamps), scoops on side-intakes (but their wing looks cheaper than the Factory's), plus the nice paint job looks to have costed them a bit... But I still question EU$200k...unless they’re also including their time they took to spec the parts and then test/tune it after it was built: I’ve priced strong racing-transaxles and engines, etc. (although the things like a CF roof or custom suspension are harder to estimate), and adding Ultima’s costs -- without street-parts (luggage bins, AirCon, etc.) -- much closer to US$100k when NEW, including the labor to build it, but not to spec it or tune it (and maybe it costs more to build it in Germany; still, not nearly the *twice* as much as I've built similar cars for, here). But I’ve also seen cars’ prices double when the mfr. offers to set-up the suspension on a skidpad and race track (labor, entry fees, petrol, etc.) and custom-program the engine (dynamometer fees etc.), then deliver it new, so this could easily justify their asking-price. But since I like doing the test/tune (and probably so does this car’s builders...), even if it means laying on the pavement to get the tread temperature
, I don’t consider that “work”; dang, I consider it, “You should pay me to have used my (or what eventually will be my) car a few hundred miles and you having fun driving/tuning the suspension instead of me!”
I've also seen that custom jobs tend to become devalued faster because you spec'ed it for yourself, so no one else is benefitted much, by the time you took to spec it; but their price (57% of the original cost after only 6 months, according to their ad) seems to reflect this. And/or the EU$200k could easily be a reasonable (compared to other co's) amount to pay for a racing car if it "only" took EU$120k to build but has then been sorted-out (and custom-programmed) and the suspension tuned for 100 hours or more by a professional driver, for "only" EU$80k.

Isn't that a Sports? Doesn't look like a GTR.
Nope, its a GTR but completely specialy designed and bodywork for racing
special bodywork with carbon? and airo design![]()
René
Here's a few pics of Sports:
Here's a few pics of Grassers Ultima:
It's based on a Sports!! (very cool anyway)
I was told that these performance upgrades can be fitted into the GTR as well. ie. diffuser, front splitter, winglets, etc... The prices for the performance parts are also listed on their Website. Additionally, the car can be driven upside down at speeds greater than 150mph. Plus, the car generates 2Gs of cornering G-force. There are some videos of the Ultima Sports with the performance upgrades driven around the track. There's one interior and exterior video on their Website.

Looks nice. How do you recognize a Sports from a GTR when the car is heavily modified like this one?
Door hinges on the outside
rounded back
opening in the back
headlights and rounded foglights in the front
opening behind front wheels
side air intake
different panel where the gas cap i fitted on the GTR
etc...
GTRene said:Yep, they imply both of those things (2005 and GTR-based)... or as I said from the start: their webpage/advertisement looked fishy on other points, too -- especially when compared with their grasser-racing.com webpage.
But they speak of a 2005 GTR in their own article??
GTRene said:Yeah, he did... Of course, I was only looking casually since I wasn't thinking of buying, but I, too, didn't see that it was an old Sports until he pointed it out!
strange...but you did some nice research

Hi - i am new to this forum
The Grasser Ultima is my old car, 1 of 3 ultimas i owned
Grasser bought my old car in Holland and completely stripped and rebuilt it.
It is actually the orange Overland racecar in the above picture !!!
I can hardly recognise it myself until i had a good look at Grassers website.
As for the cost - Ted built my car at a cost of over 90 grand - i suppose Grasser maybe spent the same again ?
Beside above i also owned the original red factory sports demonstrator, and an organge 500 hp spyder i understand lives in Canada

Hello Wayne
As you can see i am now cured from the Ultima virus.
having owned 3 over the space of about 5 years i have had lots of fun with them at trackdays and racing in various countries.
At the time reliability was not one of the strongest points.
After having had several disappointments with parts falling off, blowing up engines and loosing a wheel at 180 mph on the nurnburgring nordschleife straight etc i called it a day.
I dont want to deter anybody from owning an ultima however, and Ted & his son were always nice to deal with.
At the moment i race my cars such as caterham, westfield and a mallock.
This may sound boring but i manage the same laptimes at zandvoort in them as during the ultima days.

scary story Herbert...but what with a Ultima GTR with LS7 stuff could that be a bit better? or better focus on a FFR GTM?

Well Mr Overdijk,
I was thinking: When you came with that (red?) GTR to the eurocircuit about 15 to 20 years ago. It was the first time I saw a car like that.
In the back of my head it must have influenced me so much that, after not seeing one ever after, I went to Ted Marlow and ordered one, last year.
thx Joop

Looks like what a facelift GTR might be. How long are it's wishbones? I like mine at least 3ft long

hello joop
It must have been around 1994 when i owned the red ex factory demonstrator j838mju.
Are you from Holland ? What did you order, and will your car be registered in Holland ? Is there an Ultima importer or dealer over there ?
In the past i met Peter Dreissen and Johan Albers - who built a few Audi V8 engined cars.

Hello Herbert,
I live in Eindhoven,
Planned to build the GTR myself in 3 years, with dutch plates.
One year gone. A lot of work is done, but still a long way to go.
If you are ever near my place, come and have a look,
a man with your GTR knowledge and history is always welkom.
kind regards
Joop
PS: Look under my name in PH for my mailadres, there is also a picture.
