Turn Signal Stalks

I know a few of you have fitted Turn Signal Stalks off other cars in place of the factory switches. I would like to do the same thing, what make/model car did you get the parts from?

I haven't used it but I know that people here in sweden often use the switch from a Peugot 205, they have every function you need and also the horn button.

I'm using a set from late '90s Mazda 626 I believe. Light controls on the left, wiper/washer on the right side with intermittent wiper circuit.

Has anyone added an indicator stalk that requires minimal modifications ? If so I would be grateful if you could mail me what you did. I've been looking at stalks that simply strap onto the column but none will fit (they're all too deep).

I have used stalks from a late Escort, these incorporate, lights, indicators, main beam and flash on the left hand stalk and 2 speed wipers, washer, delayed intermittent wipe on the right hand stalk, with hazard switch on the top, got them off e-bay (ford-parts123) for £48.00 new, you also need to get the horn ring. There's no easy way to connect them, I have employed the services of an auto electrician, Stig has done a similar thing, check out his build web site. I originally started with stalks from a mk4 Escort, the dumpy ones, but the fixings for them was to bolt straight onto the dash which I wasn’t too keen on, there was no facility for a horn either.
One thing that installing stalks does is bring the wheel about an inch or closer to you, and you need to get the column lengthen, but I think it’s worth it as it gives the interior the OE look. Well that’s the look I’m going for, and if it’s the first thing that people comment on, oh look ‘Ford switchgear’ I’ll just remind them what parts bin Aston use for their cars.

I've met quite a bit of that. Folk are always asking what the car is based on "It's really an old Cortina isn't it" or "What it's a replica of?" I think most "car" folk can't get over the fact it may borrow minor parts from a few places but it is mostly unique and thus harder to pigeon hole...

Ive done some searching on the net for billet ones. I was thinking that the Hotrod crowd may have something, but I couldnt find anything. Anyone know the best place on the net to look for Hotrod parts?

Check out Nigel Dean's Cobra build, he had some billet stalks made up, he used the Sierra stalks and s/column but he lost the horn and screen washer functions in the process.

I know of a few places pretty popular over here but have only found one main source of steering columns:

Yeah.... I found them, also www.flamingriver.com .... but these are complete columns.

There are also other ones made for hotrods but they are very old school.

I am thinking I might get some billet bits made and graft them to something off the shelf like the Escort one.... the search continues.

Or on a similar vein, at MPH'05 yesterday, I had a good look at the Koenigsegg. It (like the Zonda used to) uses rear lights from a Caetano Bus! So nerr-ner-ne-nerrr

Also, I had a gander at the Gumpert Apollo. I had to laugh at the recent thread when someone posted that it was 'better engineered' and had 'better build quality'. Well, having had a gander close up they are very wrong on both counts!

I have some pics to prove it too

PS. I used Ford stalks, again, for OE look. Fun job to wire

Nope - tested it and it's fine. The Stack ST8130P is £925+VAT

It's not cheap, but when see what you get for the money, it makes sense

Hadnt seen those but have been on your site time and time again!

Your site's and a few other peoples along with seeing Ultima's at car shows over the years and being an Engineer has put this stupid idea in my head that I want to build one (GTR). My GTR account is growing (well Ill be there in 4 years )

Looks really good. I was thinking the same thing, it is expensive but that and the stalks leave so much of you're dash un-cluttered! (Im jotting down all these tips so one, fingers crossed I can put them to good use).

I originally had the dials but wanted to move them from the centre of the dash and place them behind the wheel, I needed to source some warning lights as well. After some trial fits I decided that I really wanted the Stack but couldn't really justify the cost. Then I found a dash (DigiDash) which at £700 offers, all the warning lights, a data logger, various alarms for oil/water etc, but, and it could be a big but, it's designed to fit inside a steering wheel, it doesn't fit like the Stack, it's a small unit but I think that I've cracked the fitting. ....just a thought and another alternative.
