Newbie... Quick Intro ...Hi..

After surprisingly little (for me anyway) sideways looking at other suppliers\manufactures, I placed my order with Ultima yesterday. Thought I would give you a heads up to the stream of questions (after searching first of course) that will no doubt start in about 12 weeks time!
This will be my first build. I do have a little general experience but specifics is where I'm lacking. I've been researching the Ultima for about a month now and picked up loads of information from this site and the great "build diaries" that are out there (thanks guys). I feel as though I've already started - the trouble is, the wish list is getting rather long! Well, quick introduction over.. I think its back to sorting out the garage tonight.

Hi Russ welcome to PH and Ultima ownership.
The garage is your first focus and will pay dividends if done right.
Post a list of everything you think your garage/tool chest will should consist of and we will take delight in telling you where you have gone wrong. Simply writing the list will help you.
A dolly to do the chassis work on is IMHO a must so put your request in for anyone with a spare (mine went to a new home just the other week).
An air rivet gun will ease the arm ache and a right angle drill or drill adaptor is a must.

This might be a later stage consideration - EFI!
But after experiencing first hand the poor low speed (part throttle) driving experience that a caburated engine gives (ok, ok, I know I shouldn't be driving slow!), not to mention the raw stench of petrol comming from the car (even just parked in the garage!) and stalling under braking (happened to me at least twice already!), it might be worth considering a fuel injected engine. I'm giving serious though to 'updating' mine with a Kinsler/Motec setup...
What colour did you have in mind? Yellow? Blue? ;-)

Hi Russ greatings. You will have great fun. Also started with no experience. Enjoyed the build all the way through. As mentioned sort the garage you have plenty of time. If you search the forum you will find all sorts of lists of tools. Also get to a kit car show, next I guess in Spring at Stoneleigh.
Add the creature comforts to the garage your new home, HiFi, heating, coffee machine, minibar etc.

To answer some of the questions:-
Steve:- The garage is fairly well stocked - I have quite an eclectic array of tools that I've built up over the years - one item I did miss though was the trusty old milk crate - I'd forgotten about this one - very versatile, and no self respecting engineer would be without one! I noticed one in your garage. The steel for the dolly is fairly cheap and I can fab it up myself. Just need to get some "in-between" drill bits. I have the air tools…and loads of clamps.
Peterpsg:- Certainly considering EFI. I've read the many threads on this topic and there are many varied thoughts on the subject. Not sure on the colour yet, red looks good but so do the others - I've a while to go before the final decision.
Stig:- It’s a GTR I've opted for - I get the open air feeling from my bike! Spec - well, where do I start, there's the wants, needs and desires. I'm on the needs at the moment - the wants are essentially APR brakes, spoiler, 500+ engine etc. I'll be going with the G50 and RHS shift. I'll be pretty much sticking with the factory build but may vary the dash instruments - the desires are EFI, probably traction control. The exhaust noise is a concern I have as I do want to do a few track days - I'm only 5 minutes away from Oulton Park. I may look at a couple of different possibilities for this.
Crazy of Cookham:- I was down at Donnington on Sunday - had a good mooch around - some nice builds in the infield! - great pictures from the services as well (on the Donnington topic). As to creature comforts - I've got the HiFi sorted, we have a second fridge in the garage and its for storing beer!! Just need to get heating sorted as the chassis is due mid Jan, Brrrr.

congrats on build you will love it and hate it all at once ,noooooo not another GTR we need some more Can-am,s i,m starting to feel like a illegitimate love child!!!i bought a fireball 40 lpg gas heater it is great as it warms the garage up in 5 mins flat , need a computer for build cd would have been lost without mine !!working on fuel injection over winter watch this space !simon

Thanks guys - I'm sure I'll be going through the full range of emotions! It's that last emotion I need to keep focusing on 
Reading the papers this morning apparently we in the UK are heading for the worst winter in 10 years...just my luck. Looks like I'll be investing in a nice big propane powered space heater then. I've got an old laptop sorted for the build manual. I'll keep my eyes open for the posts on your EFI Simon. Hope it all goes well.

Reading the papers this morning apparently we in the UK are heading for the worst winter in 10 years...just my luck. Looks like I'll be investing in a nice big propane powered space heater then. I've got an old laptop sorted for the build manual. I'll keep my eyes open for the posts on your EFI Simon. Hope it all goes well.

You live near Oulton Park. I'm only 20 minutes away myself. I'm fitting EFI and traction control over the winter. I'm using the Holley commander MPFI sytem on mine. I'm doing a lot of head scratching at the moment working out injector sizes as I'm also fitting a procharger centrifugal blower at the same time.
I,ve been building chevy engines for years (EFI is a bit new though), so feel free to ask all the questions you like.

Hi Dave - very interested in your winter mods - I'm researching EFI at the moment so once I can talk semi knowledgably about it, I'll no doubt have some questions - Good luck.
