Engineering feat aside, lets consider for a moment:

Veyron: approx EUR 1 million
Ultima: considerably less than EUR 1 million

Still, an achievement nevertheless. I wonder when the VAG bug will bite, and they put this engine into a Passat?

It is a folly somewhat, but in my eyes, a wonderful engineering folly!

Interesting is the maths in how many more BHP/lbft would it take for the Ultima to match or even better the record - surely it's not going to be that much more given the weigth of the Bugatti?

I presume getting the power down will start to become the issue and I assume the Bugatti's 4WD helps massivly there?

In someways it's very nice we live in a socitey that still allows this sort of thing to happen.

But its a heavy weight with 1,888kg!(almost double) and double the cilinders, 16 instead of 8 from the Ultima.
But with that weight and torgue it must have some good brakes and clutch, I don't think it can do more then 2 fast laps around the "ring" in Germany, and I think the Ultima is faster there!
And I've heard, before the Bug wants to be faster then the Ultima, he has to stop!! and turn a special key!!to get that extra power? and when he brakes! he has to do that all again! stupid, that way the Ultima is already far away I say...

I thought the best 0-60 that the GTR did was 2.7 seconds? So .2 slower, with 2 driven tyres, and 2/3 the bhp!

Also, what's the 100-0 time/distance of the VW vs the GTR?
I mean, with a 'typical' owner it will weigh over 2 ton!

Plus give the GTR an extra gear, and a bit more aero...

Has anyone turbocharged a chevy lump in an Ultima? I would have thought that 1000bhp would be quite achievable with a couple of blowers. The power to weight ratio would certainly be in the Ultimas favour, but traction might be an issue.

I wonder whether that twin bike engined thing would get close.

for 0-60 and 100 times surely its traction thats the issue? Having been in BlueSatins GTR it's rarely a case of being under powered but a case of grip at the back.

I bed it stll will lose the 0-100-0 time set by the WR ultima GTR...

by the way, nice Ultima GTR for sale you have! when you asked 45.000,- in euro's I would buy it...çan't spend it in GBP sadly but I like your car even in RHD but I hope to buy a second hand LHD this year or at least next year...

Impressive engineering. I don't know if I really like the body work though. It certainly stands out, but it sort of looks like its made up of two separate cars.

But, if Bugatti would like to lend me one for a few months so I can make a final opinion, I be certain to be fair....
