Engine shoe-in problem.

The engine sits in nicely, but I just can't seem to get the holes lined up for the bolts going through the motor mounts to the chassis. The rubber on the mounts seems to grab at the chassis, it sticks and then won't budge, even with the full weight of the engine pressing on it.

I can get one side bolted, then the other side sits maybe 1/4 inch off alignment. I can sit it in the middle and then both are about 1/8 inch off alignment.

Any suggestions on what to do? :idea:

Try loosing the mounts on the motor that should just make the difference.

I had to put spacer washers between my block and engine mounts, this also meant having to open up the 3 holes on the mounts and a little tweaking of the main bolt holes as well. Subtle adjustment is the key, you should be used to it by now, and if not when you fit the gearbox you may get a bit more practice.

I had very much the same problem... the fix is going to depend on the typ of motor mount. I got mine from the local Car Quest, and they were a OEM GM part. I found that the mounts had a steel "tab" on the lower part of the mount that needed to be ground off. It sat down where it needed to be after that.

Also, there are two types of mounts that are standard Chevy. "tall and narrow" and "short and wide". You will need the "short and wide" variety. There isn't a lot of difference between the two. (I can't recall exactly off the top of my head, but 3/16" width difference seems to come to mind).

Got it in last night. Turns out that if you tilt the back of the engine down a bit, the reat holes line up. Put the bolts in half way, lift the rear of the engine up a bit, then the rubbber on the mounts is compressed enough to line the front holes up and the bolts push through. Neat.
