Air Con/Heater Keeps blowing fuse

I hope someone can help.

While testing the heater/air con the 15a fuse blows the minute I turn the heater on.

I have disconnected the jump cable from the heater unit to the air con temp but it still happens.

I've also used a different green cable to see if the loom item was at fault but it still happened.

Any tips?

Are you sure that the fan impellors haven't seized? This happened to me on the GTR. There are some vented end caps on the sides of the blower chassis, do yourself a favour and pull these out - they perform no useful function and can jam the fan blades.

Does the fan run for the moment before the fuse blows?

Could be a problem in the motor. try running completly independant wires to the fan motor to see if it runs and if the wires get hot.

It seems tome that the minute you turn the heater on the fuse blows, after removing the grills I'll see if the fans attempt to move.

I'll give an update later today.

It's fixed

It was indeed the vented end caps that caused the problem. One end actually had a fan fin caught on it and the other wasn't running smoothly as it rubbed at high speed.

They have now been removed and all's well (and the dash is all back together again).

Thought as much!

Mine failed on the way to Le Mans the other year in very hot weather - didn't make for a very comfortable trip!

The first thing I did when fitting the AC to the Can-Am was to rip those damn vent caps off!!
