refilling gearbox puzzler

Yes I drained my G50, confident that I could refill, but guess what... There's no access to get an allen key in the hex socket on the top of the box (old drain point). There is a 22mm bolt on the drivers side of the box, towards the rear, a little lower than the gear linkage rod, which I've removed and it looks like either the reversing switch or a temperature sendor. But the aperture left is about 5mm and using a drinking straw cobbled to a funnel I'm not getting any noticalbe flow... Doh ! I'm sure it's just cos it's late and I'm tired. But isn't there an easy way ?

Hopefully there is a better way to approach this, but if you do end up dribbling the oil through a drinking straw then heat the oil up first. Really makes a huge difference to the viscosity and flow rate.

I used one of the little access covers on the right hand side of the gearbox casing. It was oval/diamond shaped with a bolt in each side.

I use the same method as Bob, the diameter of the whole must be 20mm or more and is perfect for getting the bottle neck squirty bit into. I also have my gearbox breather attached to this plate. For resealing I use clear silicon sealant without a paper gasket which I think would normally have been used.

Thanks guys. The posting was due to tiredness and frustration. Something I know you'll understand. I reckon the lows just big-up the highs, and boy am I looking forward to just driving for a couple of hours for the hell of it at the weekend.

There is a filler on the side of the box.

The plug at the top is the old porsche drain plug and the plug at the bottom is a bung where the old porsche vent was

you should see an allen head hold, a similar size to the plug at the top of the box about 2/3 of the way up on the side.

And if it's never been out, be prepared to bend an allen key or two trying to do so!!!
