Yes, when I start it up, the neighbour reports picture break-up on digital TV. Does this mean my car has something odd in its electrics ?? Should I build a faraday cage around my garage :-?

tell your neighbour to stop moaning. why would he want a viewable picture when he cant hear it over the noise of your engine anyway.

Turns out he just wants rides into work in it. But hey still interested in the electronic/radio noise it emits.

if you have an MSD ignition, they are renowneed for being electrically noisy. Perhaps that is the source of the noise

You can (or at least could) get filters to put in the line from the aerial to the TV that cut down interference from radios, etc. Don't know if they would work with digital TV though. IIRC they cost a couple of quid.

the STACK dash in mine used to interfer with the radio reception despite a surpressor.

Freeview boxes are awful when it comes to picking up interferance. I used to live on a busy road in Streatham, every time a motorbike went past the picture would break up.

It got better once we changed from an indoor aerial to a decent loft mounted one.

The current Freeview boxes are better than the older OnDigital ones, but still suffer from this problem.

Aerial filter won't help, as noise will be wide band. Filters only help to remove other discreet frequencies eg taxis etc. Need to supress the "noise" at source. Typically noise will come from ignition, but could be alternator arcing. I've got a feeling that car without metal bodywork would be harder to supress, as the earthed metal would normally cut down on the emitted RF. Baisically make sure that everything is earthed, and there are supressors (capacitors) fitted everywhere that there should be. (I used to look into interference for a living, so know a bit about it)
