I'm replacing the front pads on car for the first time since I've had it (handy seeing as they're down to the metal!). I've taken off Ferodo pads with a part number of FRP3081R. However, looking at the price of them, I was wondering if anyone on here knew of some pretty good equivalent pads at lot less.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thank you for your help. Might have to bite the bullet on this one. Do you know where I may be able to source these at the lowest price?

And do they have to have the same part no.? What I mean is, can I fit any Ferodo DS3000 pads?

what car are they for?
you could try Mintex

1144 for fast road
1155 for track days
1166 for racing

Thanks, magpie. It's for an '05 Seat Leon Supercopa. The rear setup is standard Cupra R, but the front is a whole different kettle of fish.

What are EBC or Pagid like as brands? They'll be needed for racing, not endurance, but still want a balance between performance a durability.

I think you do get what you pay for as the chap said earlier. I use pagid and performance racing, serious race pads. I think they often have much longer lives than cheaper ones so lifetime cost probably no different. EBC and Mintex are, IMHO, cheaper but poorer substitutes. A supercopa is a serious racecar and if it were me I'd put some serious pads in it.

Salutary lesson last month at Snetterton... Racing with a friend new to the game. He'd not fully prepped the car and was using cheaper pads. We had no brakes after 3 laps and it almost cost us the whole race weekend for a hundred quid or so. He won't do that again.

Good advice. Brakes and tyres are the two things I never scrimp on.

You also very quickly learn that being able to brake well (not necessarily as quickly as possible) and having as much grip as possible are the two predominant equipment contributors to fast laps.

I got a few bits from them. They were the cheapest I could find at the time. Might not be the cheapest for you, though.

I've heard good things about the Carbon Loraine pads, but again, that's for my car. I don't know how they compare with other cars.

What do people think of Hawk pads and their equivalence to DS3000? I had ds3000 in my mk1 golf race car, but have put untried Hawk Black in now, and not sure if they will be right. Here is what is their spec.

I did a back to back test with DS3000 and Hawk pads on my Spitfire racer. DS3000 were brilliant, great feel and stopping power, Hawks (no idea what compound) felt very harsh on the discs and turned them blue. (I was given both sets as part worn barely used pads)

So for my 700Kg car that is mostly braked from the front the Ferodos were best. Mintex 1155 worked well too (car too light and races too short for 1166) and the current Wilwood Polymatrix A's are also very good.

Given the choice and cash I'd take the Ferodo DS3000 though.

By some miracle, just found a stash of DS3000s in a spares box, enough to last me the season I think.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

all above pads are good, but ive raced on DS3000's in 3 different car from 700-1450kgs & for performance & longevitiy they take some beating

I've used Mintex 1155s and they were rubbish, ended up stuck to the outside of the wheel!

A few years ago I bought my latest race car with Ferodo 3000 pads on the front and they were diabolical. Too much rubber in the mix caused deposits on the discs that resulted in really bad juddering, almost as though the discs were warped. I cleaned the discs up, changed to Mintex F2 pads and they are brilliant. Not cheap, but very, very good. I use Mintex 1166s on the back and the balance is about right. Only my opinion though.

I used to use Mintax 1166 on the front and 1155 on the back. Following upgrades in both the car and my driving I find that the operating spec of the 1166's have been exceeded and found them to fade off during heavy breaking ( especially going into knickerbrook at Oulton yikes ). Now using Mintex F4R on the front and sticking with the 1155's on the back.

Not tested in anger yet, hope they stop me at the end of Revitt straight at Snett in 2 weeks time biggrin

Car weighs in at about 1120kg with me sat in it, so quite heavy.
