Hi

I have an e30 325 that I've had for a couple of years which I race (CSCC). I bought the car as a road worthy car so it had the V5 etc. I no longer drive it on the roads and for a couple fo years have declared it SORN.

I seem to recall that there is a form that can be filled in to declare the car is used for racing only. I have phoned the DVLA and (surprise) they were no help.

I'm guessing there are a lot of you who have experience of this.

I don't want to keep SORNing the vehicle as it's a PITA and sooner or later I will forget to do it and get in trouble (move house/lose form etc).

Anyone help?

I am in exactly the same position. We race in CSCC Tintops and ours is SORN and so is the spare shell.

Always wondered if you could declare it scrapped as there is a section on the form for that? It wont see a road again. Not heard about declaring it for racing but not really looked into it. As you I just SORN them every year

Having the v5 is handy and gives value if anyone wanted to return it to the road in the future ( you never know it may become and uber rare classsic) Its also a lot easier to prove its legit and sell it. Just look at what happened recently with race bikes, and lots of stolen stuff.

SORN is a pita, but I just suck it up and sorn everything every year.

I did forget one year, and wrote to the dvla after 2 months, and explained the situation, that is was a race car and at that time on load to a college, they backdated the sorn and no fine !!!!

You can SORN online in about 30 seconds, so why worry about it? Clicketty, clicketty, click, done.
