Somerset Stages
Discussion
Not sure how much interest there is in rallying on this forum but is anyone going to Minehead for the Somerset Stages, the third round of the BTRDA rally championship?
I will be there with my regular driver, Boy Kershaw, in his Mk2 Escort and I'm interested to know how much rallying there is in this branch of the sport.
See you in Minehead?

Sadly I'll not be going this year although I've done the Somerset a few times. It's a cracking event with some great stages including the fantastic Porlock. A lack of funds means no stage rallying for me at the mo, which is frustrating seeing as I got a shiny new bash hat for Xmas and haven't used it yet!
I'll be oop north doing the Danum road rally instead, but assuming finances are good then fully expect to be there next year in the silly seat again!

I'll try and get up there for at least some of the day being as it's virtually on my doorstep.

Shame I'm going to be missing this one due to other commitments, but there is an absolutely cracking entry
Andy Burton is out in his Peugeot..and he won the last two events ...plus this is the last year it's going to be allowed to run...

would anyone know what time the porlock toll road stage will be starting as i know they do not like to let the stage start times known and i would really like to see this stage
Hi there, as organisors we only publish the details of the Spectator Stage at Chargot. This is due to problems in previous years with Parking and general poor driving standards, near the stages by a small minority of rally followers, who have upset both the Locals and Exmoor National Parks. As we rely on support from both of these we have aggreed to only publicising the Chargot Stage. Hence the reason for not publicising the stage times. Chargot will have Commentary, Loo's and a Catering van and will be live for a large majority of the day with cars at 30 second intervals in the afternoon. If you are going to Porlock, can I ask that you go very steady through the village, and park as neatly as possible to avoid upsetting the local residents, and farmers who still need to access their fields on Saturday. We also had problems last year with someone using one of the Toll Roads residents gatepost as a Loo, which created an incident that could have stopped us useing the venue this year.
I hope you have a good day Spectating, we have a cracking entry again this year and the forecast looks good, so pack the sun cream!! And if you get any good pic's dont forget you can submit them for publication on the Event Website.
Excellent days rallying yesterday and well done to the organising team for putting on a great event.
We finished 2nd in class and 26th overall which was an excellent result against a very strong class field in B11. Our target for the day was 5th in class because of the sheer strength in depth in the field so to come home with a trophy was a top result.
Our day wasn't without drama with a number of close calls and a wrong slot a O rig failure on the rear diff and unfortunately on the last stage I seemed to have confused myself on the notes at the very beginning and it took me a little while to get back on it.
If anyone has any pictures of Car 50 The Flying Kiwi it would be appreciated.
Next round is the Plains next month.

Well, me and my dad popped up to the spectator area at Chargot Woods on Saturday PM. We saw a fantastic range of cars from clubman Micras and Novas to ex-WRC monsters.
I do have to admit though it was a bit disappointing to be penned into a small area where you can realistically only see one corner which was made slower by the addition of 2 hay bales on the inside. I'd love to see more of the stages open to the public to give us spectators more viewing options. There's nothing like picking a good spot of your own to watch the action at close quarters. It was an excellent day overall though and I'm more than happy to support any local motorsport so hats off to the organizers and and competitors for giving us a much needed dose of rallying in Somerset.

Thanks for the comments guys, I will pass them on to the rest of the event committee when we next meet. Thankfully the weather was on our side, and to my knowledge we only had one hold up when we had to stop a stage for 7 mins! so everything went well.
I have to say when we received the times at Rally HQ for stage 9 and found the top 3 cars were all exactly level on time with 2 stages left to go, it again became anyones event, I would have loved Andy Burton to edge ahead to take the win in his last year with the car, but he told me in the bar afterwards, his clutch started to play up so he conserved it for a finish.
Pleased you all enjoyed the day.
