Hi,

I'm looking for info on kart racing for my son as he fancies himself as a future F1 driver!
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Not sure if it would be the best starting point... Maybe something slightly smaller at first but Easy Kart UK is brilliant. Very good drivers, and quite a bit cheaper than other series of that quality. They have different age classes etc, going into senior levels.

How old is your son?

Kids can start racing from the age of 8, There are a variety of different ways into the sport, my dad started me off with lesson at our local track and developed from there.

Check this website out:

otherwise PM if you have any other questions, I hope you have deep pockets!

As above, age is a big factor in which class etc he is eligible for...as is weight really. Being a fair bit taller than average, I ended up in TKM intermediate rather than the juniors when I was 13/ 14, as I was competing against kids who weighed the same as a bag of sugar.

Best bet is go to your local circuit and see what formulas they run and what grid sizes are like, have a talk with one or two drivers and take it from there.

http://www.karting.co.uk/ is a good website as well for all things related.

I'm presuming he's been before and enjoyed it by the way? I only ask as its a very expensive fad otherwise...

Even if they are deep enough, the work would do him/her good laugh

(Coming from someone who did 4 different paper rounds a week so his dad would pay the majority of costs )

hi, i see you are in the southwest. When i was in my teens,(about 7-8 years ago) castle combe ran a championship during the summer months up on their karting track there. You had to do a liscence over a few weeks before you could enter, then it was about £30 a sesion, every other sunday if i remember.
It was good as it was really competative, and they supply the karts and all the gear, or you can take your own, so you dont have the initial outlay of buying the karts etc. you got a proper amount of racing time, started at about 9 going on until about 3 with heats in the morn and finals in the afternoon, the karts where 'proper' carts on slicks, not the chuff along things you get when you go indoor Karting. Its a really good setup for spectating too!
Then if your son turns out to be a little jenson in the making, the guys there can point you in the right direction with regards to buying a kart etc etc.
here's a link, it would appear they are still running the series:

good luck !!

I'm a bit late here as the thread was a few days but I'm heavily involved in karting both as a driver and on the committee of Llandow Kart Club in South Wales.
Not sure whether you've made any further progress but to race with your own equipment in official msa racing at age 8 he would have to race in one of the cadet classes.
Not sure how local Llandow is to you but if your interested you can PM me for more info and I can put you in touch with sombody who owns a small team that hires cadet karts for testing and racing at reasonable rates so he could at least have a go in a proper racing kart before you both make your minds up or part with any serious money.

kids can actually start at the age of 5 or 6 in bambino karts. i think they have some at buckmore park. if i remember right, they dont race together but do training sessions. they then go up to cadets where they can race.
