Anyone racing in Castle Combe Saloons this year or previously raced in the series? Just wondering what it's like - friendly, competetive, good value for money etc? Think they're also running a new class D for this year for largely standard cars which looks interesting.

Also would anyone know what happened to the 2 Focus Rs that used to race? One was driven by Terry Thorne and the other Adam Beachgood I think. Just wondered if the cars were still about but raced elsewhere?

Any info, opinions and help appreciated

Adams Focus, which we ran for a while after inheriting it from Interpro is still owned by the Beachgoods and used for track days now and again.

I currently race in class B 1401 - 1800cc (class c last year).
Its a good series and everyone is pretty friendly. Grids are usually very big (up to 42 cars) so so good racing throughout the field. The new class d is interesting as the regs took a while to come out and some people have already decided to progress to class b due to limited mods they were planning. There is a good topic on the combe forum regarding class d if you interested.
the 2 rs focus' just seemed to die out - not really sure why.

Value for money - it can be as cheap or expensive as you like but you can be competitive and have good racing for relatively low budget.

Cheers

I've raced in the saloons since 2007 but I've been involved since 2005 as a friend of Terry Thorne.

Terry just couldn't afford it anymore as he had a new family. He sold the car and I think it was converted back to a road car.
It was a pretty good car once the silly little problems were fixed. Almost got third in the class B championship one year.

Everyone is friendly at Combe but try to avoid getting involved in discussing the regulations. Any conversation about them is very long and complicated smile

Thanks for all the replys guys and yeh I'd already looked on the Castle Combe website but things seemed alittle quiet on there so thought I'd ask here. I've seen the discussions ref class D so will be staying out of that one, I do hope that class works out though.

Well gona re read the regs and see whats what as I'd really like to race a MK1 Focus RS and Combe being local seems a good place to start. Shame Terry had to sell up, I remember watching him race and the car was competetive but that was 3 - 4 years ago so maybe the regs / competition have moved on and the Focus's maybe no longer a good choice.

All the best to everyone racing this season
