I currently race cars and have no plans to stop, but I've been asked if I can drive someone's spare kart. He mentioned I already have all the kit, but I'm actually wondering if I do? Out of my race suit, boots, gloves and lid how much of this is usable for karting? I'm guessing only the helmet but thought I should probably double check first!

The only thing you will need to change is the suit. Car suits are not abrasion proof so should you fly out of the kart it will get shredded to pieces. You can pick them up cheap enough second hand from places like www.karting.co.uk

Ah cheers. What about gloves though. I imagine they'd need changing for the same reason?

gloves and boots are pretty much free regulation wise, quite a few people who race karts use car gloves and boots and their perfectly legal.

As look as the boots cover your ankles then they'll be fine. Gloves can be any type, mine are specific karting ones but any can be used. You'll need a cik level 2 karting suit if it is for a championship race.
