CSCC Revives Modsports & Special/ Super Saloon Racing
Discussion
OK, I can confirm that the Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC) has announced a revival race for the Modsports and Special Saloons type cars that were such a feature of the UK club racing scene in the 1970 & 80s. The race will take place at Mallory Park on August Bank Holiday Monday, 29 August 2011. The race is open to all Modsports and Saloons, Special & Super Saloons, Thunder Saloons and Donington GT type cars and will be free to acceptable cars that raced in period.
This initiative is organised by the CSCC & is not associated with any previous attempts at this sort of revival.
The CSCC can confirm that Joe Ward has entered Baby Bertha, Jon Lee has entered Tony Hazlewood’s Dafnee and Dave Taylor has entered the ex Mick Hill Beetle. Other special cars of the period are planning to join.
The CSCC hopes that there will be sufficient interest generated to run further races later in the year, leading to a regular series for similar modified cars in 2012.
Baby Bertha will be on display on the CSCC’s stand at the Race Retro show in February to publicise the event.
Owners of cars that they feel may be eligible are requested to get in touch with the club.
There are no Tech Regs formed as yet (outside of what is applicable for the Blue Book, obviously), as this is aimed at existing cars that may have raced in period. If there is sufficient interest then regs for a new series can be considered, with the help of interested participants.
Lets get these fantastic cars back on track!
If anyone wants any more info then please get in touch.

Not that I'm aware of. Doesn't mean that they haven't, though. If you have any details then let me know & we can de-conflict. There was an attempt to run a similar race last year but i don't think it happened & the website doesn't seem to exist any more. Judging by the response we have had so far then we will be able to get a very good grid out.
Yes, girlfriend's birthday is the 28th. I'm only usually allowed one day of the Gold Cup. This is an enormous potential spanner in the works. I'm afraid Gold Cup will always win out over the MGCC, though I know Steve their Competitions man and would like to make the effort to get to one of the race meetings soon.
The CSCC have had over 40 people register interest in this race so far & we will have to whittle this down to a grid of 20 for the day. Not an easy task. Nevertheless it should be a tremendous day and things are looking good for aregular series of half a dozen r so races for next year.
In advance of this revival race, the CSCC will have a Test & PR session at Mallory on Wednesday 29 June 2011 in support of this event. Potential participants who registered their interest in the August Bank Holiday Monday Special Saloons/ Modsports/ Thundersaloons Revival Race should have received an invite to attend this Test & PR event. Vauxhall are supporting the day & it is hoped that the national press will be present with passenger rides possible in suitable cars to invited guests during the lunch break.
Spectators will I'm sure be welcome. The CSCC test sessions will be alternated with the usual Mallory Park wednesday tests for single seaters etc.

Just thought that I would bring this thread up to date. The series has continued to run with double headers at 3-5 race meetings a year since the successful Revival at Mallory Park in 2011, and this weekend sees the biggest grid since that day at Mallory with 27 car entered for a double header on Saturday 31 May at Brands Hatch.
