vw lupo in stock hatch
Discussion
hi,
im 16 and in college at the moment and i have a small chance of racing in 2012. i have been looking at stock hatch and have been looking at cars around, and my dads a vw fan and i saw in the regs that a lupo could race and just wondering if there is any that meet stock hatch specs around or how much roughly one would cost to build.

i meant specs as in the regulations. here is a copy of the regs http://www.750mc.co.uk/images/uploaded/2011%20Regs...
You could build a 1.4 16v Lupo within the regs, but the quick Lupo (6 speed 1.6) is not allowed in the series - and having had a couple of them as road cars I dooubt they'd ever allow the 1.6 in as its such a quick little car it would be unbeatable.
There was a Lupo around 2005 and it was quick but I think it had a couple of nasty accidents and was never seen again, does anyone know?
The problem you'd face building a lupo is the cost, not many people build them so all the parts will cost more than going for a saxo/106 which is what currently runs at the front. So you wont get second hand tuning bits easily, so the cost of cage, suspension etc plus all the standard race bits/tyres you might be looking at £5k including a decent donor car to build up.
You could also build a mk1 golf gti 1600 which have been used in the past and would be a nice addition to class B if you built one up - it would also be a future classic so would be easy to move on if you decided to change.

Stock hatch does have a reputation for being surprisingly expensive, particularly if you want to run at the front. You could also have a look at CSCC Tin Tops, there is a class that your Lupo 1.4 will fit straight into.
The CSCC Tin Tops races are all 40 mins long and you can have one or two drivers; there is a compulsory pit stop. Entry fees & other costs are good VFM and we have had one or two drivers from Stock Hatch join us as they prefer the CSCC driving standards.

Check out the 2005 results here:

Nigel Grimwood raced a Lupo that year. I too recall a Lupo being involved in a "biggy".
