hi folks,

a simple question really, please could someone point me in the direction of some decent places to start looking at tarmac rallying?

I've done the usual google thing, but just ended up more confused than when I started.

I havent even got as far as knowing what I'd like to drive yet, so I really am starting at the very beginning!

cheers

Hi,

Is this for general info purposes?? Have a look at http://www.asphaltrallying.co.uk/ for a start. One of the main tarmac championships. Has all the main championship contacts on there, I'm sure they would be happy to have a chat. Plus the calendar means you can go along and learn on events.

I know a guy who runs a Grp N Impreza on this championship, really good guy who is always happy to chat as well.

There are plenty of single venue events to go and watch, depending on where your based. 19th Feb is an SV at Manby, Lincolnshire. Multi Venue event, Northwest Stages is the 4th/5th Feb. There are currently 2 main closed roads events on the mainland....well kind of.

Jim Clark rally (normally around June) based around the borders of Scotland, a great event, part of the BRC. Plus there is the Mull Rally (not really the mainland I know), happens Oct/Nov time. If you fancy a trip slightly further out then the Isle of Man has plenty of tarmac events.

The MOD ranges in Wales (Epynt) and up Newcastle way also hold some pretty serious events. Epynt especially has some great events. If you look on you tube there is some great in car footage from these events.

The MSA have committed to lobbying hard for getting more closed roads events in the UK. So far this is looking ok, lots of words just waiting for the actions. But hopefully over the next couple of years there may be some major changes here.

Lots to see, so figure out exactly what your after, feel free to drop me PM if you want any more info. Good luck in your hunting.thumbup

Dude, if you are in the Sourh East then there are two single venue tarmac rallies coming up:

Brands Hatch Stages - 30th Jan at Brands Hatch - I'll be competing in car 49 white Peugeot 205 GTi, come and say hello.

South Downs Stages -12th Feb at Goodwood.

Both are free entry for spectators.

On the web, check out British rally forum, lots of info there.

Good luck!

Where are you based?

I'd seriously suggest joining a motor club before spending ANY money.

Happy to discuss anything about rallying, and if you're Surrey based I'm relatively local (Berkshire)
