Ah - the Nic Mann Minor. What an utterly fantastic sight that was at Shelsley Walsh. I grew up not far from Shelsley and got to most meetings and by far that was the most spectacular sight and sound of the day. Slightly OT, but those meetings in the 70s and 80s seemed much more diverse than nowadays with a wider variety of cars competing - especially in the roadgoing/production based classes.
I'm sure that it doesn't still hold the closed car record there any more (is that the Gould Puma?) but it says something that back in the day it was only given a run for its money by Hannu Mikkola in the Works Quattro Sport...
What we tend to forget about Nic is that as well as creating the Minor and the Mannic Beattie, he's a bloody good driver too to get the times he does.

Manic Beattie ran at Shelsley Walsh at the Centenary meeting in 2005.
PS the road going class is fine thank you.
PPS What do you compete in.
I assume that was a response/dig at my comment on the current roadgoing classes? All I was saying was that I recall a more diverse collection of cars competing in those classes in the 70s and 80s (MGBV8s, Scimitars, 911s, Morgans, Gilberns, Ginettas, Elans, assorted kit cars like Duttons (which is what my parents competed in), GTMs, Marlins, Clan Crusaders etc). I know that at an individual level anyone competing gets satisfaction and enjoyment out of whatever they are driving, and a lot of the above listed cars are now often to be seen in the classic classes, which probably reflects where my automotive interests lie. But the current classes just appear to be more homogenous than they used to. PS the road going class is fine thank you.

Of course in the past, the 'dull' part of the programme was the seemingly endless parade of Mallocks, but I'll keep that to myself...oops.
I've competed in Mini Coopers and shared my step-dads Bertone Alfa in the past, and am currently getting the 1275GT ready for next season, as you ask. So I'll see you at Shelsley in the spring.
Cheers

There was some pictures from a rally at goodwood on here earlier this year, and i'm sure it was in the background although it was a green / grey colour.
I remember Nic at weston speed trials going through the finish at over 130 mph and it pushed the screen back into its rubber.

the spaceframed green/grey minor is probably another car fitted with a Lancia or fiat twink, built by John Beardmore, who used to tend phil shorts sprint Mini Miglia.
It's a Fiat engine.http://www.beardmorebros.co.uk/
