National B licence medical,
Discussion
Went for my medical today, all went well apart from the eyesight test.
About 15 yrs ago i had a squash racket to eye accident which left me with a holed retina, basicaly this has left me with a blured area in the middle of my left eyes vision.
Something i hardly even notice now and hadnt even considered.
Although i have v good sight in my right eye and good peripheral vision in the left i was scored 6/0 for left eyesight, but a 6/6 for the right eye and 6/6 for both.
This makes the left eyesight look worse than it actually is and i'm concerned about this affecting the application.
I did phone the licencing dept and they seemed to think it may be ok but not for international or upgrades.
Anyone had experience of this kind of thing ?
I'm going to be well pissed of if i fail at the final hurdle. Cost a lot of cash to get this far..

Drayson did the LMS series in the usa to prove to the fia / aco that he could race at that level with only one eye. as they have different standard. He managed to prove that and now has fia international licences.
You'll probably be fine, worst case is they refer you to an msa doctor..

I have carried out a National B licence course for a guy who is only sighted in one eye, and my understanding of the MSA application of the rules is that as long as you have lived with the problem for longer than you have lived without it, (i.e. it has not recently happened)then they will accept your doctors medical report on it, and issue a National B racing licence, but will not allow it to be upgraded. Good luck with your application.
