TOM STEWART: 1958-2010 RIP
Discussion
Hi all,
It is with greatest sadness that I'm writing to let you all know that dad passed away today, 22/11/10 at around 8.45am. He passed at home with mam, sister and me by his side as peacefully as it could be - 30 years on from the day he and mam got engaged.
I'm aware some people are already aware, but thought it would be useful to let others know via here.
Dad was a true larger than life character, always smiling and always making jokes. A truly awesome driver winning in every form of motorsport he entered - BRISCA F2 Stockcars, MG's in varios guises in the BCV8 championship and finally in the TVR's; he was an equally awesome dad (the best anyone could have wished for) to me and Jill, and husband to Julie.
I hope I gave him a good send off to the chapel of rest - garage doors half open with the racer and Chimaera at half revs as he was placed in the back of the car and drove away - truly hope he looked down on that with a smile!!
I will pass on details of the funeral once arranged, and we would like as many people who had the pleasure of knowing him to attend as possible!
Not sure what else to say... Dave.

Sorry to hear this chap - my mum passed away last month at only 55, so know what your going through. If there was something I could say to make you feel better then I would, you just have to let time fix things.
Make sure you do every thing you want for your dad to be remembered - that helped me sort my head out.
Take care.

Sorry for your trouble fella.
Thats some hairy looking TVR your old man raced, I'm sure he experienced more thrills in a lap in that yoke than a lot of folk have experienced in a lifetime, never mind the years racing f2 stockcars and MG's
52 is too young to go but it's a mark of a life well lived that he has left you so proud.
Keep 'er lit.

Thanks guys!! You're right that 52 is far too young, though he did acheive more in his years than many achieve in far more than that!
The TVR is an awesome beast, having had a couple of goes in it! 380bhp/310ftlb torque in 950kg (+driver) makes for quite a handful, and dad managed to drive it exceptionally well!! The MG was the same engine spec, just 30 year old technology which again made for an awesome machine!!

Hi Dave , I used to work for your dad many years ago when you were a little lad... I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. He was a wonderful man who taught me many things. I have many fond memories of "the bee's" and watching his talent as a driver. He was liked and respected by many people and he will be missed.

Hi Dave
Very sorry to hear about Tom. I did not know him but when I took my young car mad son Joey to Cadwell years ago we watched a cracking race with Tom in his MG. We were pleased to see him win and after the race we wandered round the paddock to find the winner and congratulate him. Tom was very friendly to Joey and me and even let him sit in the magnificent beast, made Joe's day I can tell you.
Later on I sent some pictures of the day to CTS Racing and they were included on the website.
After that we were fans.
Tom certainly knew how to race and gain supporters.
RIP
Bill and Joey
