As the title says, I was pondering on doing some small scale rally events, but am reading here and there that I need either a BARS licence or the national b licence.

Can some one please clear things up for me? If I was to go down the national b route would that over ride the BARS licence?

Many thanks smile

Depends on the event. a nat b will not be enough if the event has a bars rating. If its rallying then you should get a bars. if its circuits then nat b. one does not override the other. they are both seperate.

That was the kind of responce I was hoping for!

I think it'll benefit me to join the local motor club and find out the score on events within the area and whats required.

Cheers! smile

If you want to drive in Rallying you have to pass the BARS in order to get a national B licence. Prior to BARS you could get a Non race national B and still drive. Now you can't, you have to do the BARS and then apply for your National B licence.

As a co-driver you can start without BARS using non race National B and Rally navigator National A. But to get an International licence for co-driving then you need to follow the drivers route....hope that helps.

Don't know how it works for circuits.

You only need a BARS test if you're planning on doing stage rallies, by small scale do you mean single venue stage rallies, or night time navigational road rallies?

Sorry, yes, well clarified.

Road Rallying - you just need a driving licence
Stage rallying - Single venue or multi venue you need to do BARS to get you National B licence.

Night time navigational rallies was what I was looking at to begin with, but I also wanted to get into small stages if anything pops up a few moths down the road.

Road rallying to start with then I think and see how it goes, I might be pants after all!

OK then, so National B at £37 (or was this year) basically fill in the form and away you go.If you enjoy then you can upgrade for stage events by doing your BARS etc...enjoy but it's very addictive!!lol
