Gents,

Those with a comp licence will no doubt have received the quarterly dose of propoganda issue of Motorsports Now in which a couple of companies have advertised very reasonably priced helmets.

Unfortunately I don't have a copy to hand but I'm after a helmet with HANS posts and the price seems really good considering they are SA2000 (I think) approved.

Does anyone have any feedback/knowledge of these helmets and are they any good? Is there a reason they're so bloody cheap?!

Many thanks.

Nic,

I have a couple of lids from http://www.v2sport.com/ . Mine is a Classic, and I got an Elite for my old man (his head too big for stocks of classic and pro, lol.

HANS posts available on elite and pro.

I've had plenty of lids over the years, and the V2 seem just as good as my old Arai / shoei / vemar jobs that were to BSxxxA/FR etc. Note that pro / classic are SA2005, Elite is SA2010.

A couple of my fellow competitors have purchsed V2Sport helmets and appear to be very happy with them. They were having delivery problems earlier in the year but not sure if this is still the case.

a couple of our guys have had V2s. Actual shell is very good, but the straps and fastenings arent as pretty as the same type from Arai, Bell etc, and not likley to last as long before getting tatty. Given that at the money you could afford to bin the lid each year and buy another for 3 years running before equalling the cost of some of the equivalent big name brands, seems fair enough to me.
For sprints, hills, trackdays etc, where your bonce isnt in them for hours on end each weekend, they are hard to beat for value. Some ive seen havent got removable linings (latest versions may have now) which if you circuit race for long periods might get a bit wiffy if you cant wash them.

pays ya money takes your choice

Thanks for that, I've been eyeing them up but it's always worth getting some first hand experience (especially in something as important as a helmet).

Looks like I know what's going on my Christmas list now! thumbup

Whatever you buy, don't buy without having tried them on first. Different helmet manufacturers have different views on the shape of heads/ helmets that are nominally the same size. To give a real world example I bought a decent Bell of the same size as my previous Shoei, mail order, & wore for it a season but it was always uncomfortable with a very "tight spot" on the forehead. I eventually decided I couldn't continue with this and bought the best fitting helmet I could find in the DT wharehouse at Wrexham. It was actually a size smaller than the Bell but it fitted better. It was also a cheaper Sparco.

I will never buy another helmet that I have not tried on again.

Top advice Andy, problem for me though is that I have an Arai shaped head. The GP6 I have felt perfect straight away.

Good advice and exactly what I do when in the market for a new helmet.

I had an Arai GP5K and ran that for years. It became tatty so I had to get a new one. Bought the V2 and its a very good helmet. Its not as comfortable fit as the Arai but it was over 400 sheets cheaper.... which in my book is something I can easily live with.

I went for the Hedtec full face with Hans. Nice helmet (oooer). Exterior and interior seem as good as the big boys although visor sunstrip looks a little cheap.
Took a while to 'shape' to my bonce but wearing it for a few hours each night in front of the pc worked for me! Considering I was only going to be using it 10 times max per season but wanted something that would work when needed - I'm happy with my purchase.

I've just taken delivery of a V2 and am very impressed, it compares very well with my fathers much higher priced Bell/Arai helmets. Highly recommended, amazing value for money.

Has anyone bought one of these open faced ones and fitted an intercom for rallying?
Currently I have a Peltor open face helmet with intercom but want to move to a Helmet with Hans, just wondering what anyone's findings have been...
