I'm thinking about doing some racing next year and was looking for a series that my current car would be eligable for. At the moment it looks to me like the only one I'm eligable for is the MSV trackday trophy. I would be grateful if anyone could suggest any others I could look in to doing.
I did look at "tin tops" and stock hatch, but unless I'm mistaken being a petrol turbo rules it out of both frown

Car:
Daihatsu Cuore, 659cc, 16v, turbo, 4wd. Currently about 80bhp, and 700kg. I'll probably be modifying it a bit over the winter to get it to around 100bhp... I understand I'll prob be at the back of any race with this, but I'm just looking for some race experience/fun.

What model year is it? If it is of a type that was available before 1990 then it is eligible for CSCC Future Classics.

You could always ask the CSCC if they would allow it in Tin Tops. I know that turbos are not allowed at the moment but my guess is that that is largely because with a 1.7x equivalence factor thrown in then most small turbo cars breach the 2 litre limit (eg MG Metro turbo, Fiat Uno Turbo etc). Your car would still be under 2 litres, even allowing for the multipying factor; in fact it would be about 1100cc equivelance in my book & with that power to weight would be fantastic in the up to 1300cc class (& with 4WD in thw et would be fantastic). Worth e-mailing the club anyway.

Cheers Andy, its from 1998, so not eligible for future classics.
Like you said though, its worth an email to ask if they'll make an exception as it is such a small engine .... they can only say no.

rallycross: yes it is an ex rally car link
I also have a std road going one as a daily. They're not particularly fast, but quite quick and handle very well.

stuartj: Thx for the suggestion, but I think that euro saloons is a bit too powerful for my car.

Make sure you ask them if its possible to enter as an "Invitation Car" if the regs don't allow it specificlly. CSCC does sometimes allow in invitation cars "in the spirit of the series" if the grids are not full.

Their Swinging Sixties & Future Classics series vave often been oversubscribed this year (10 reservers fo SS at this w/e Donington!!!) so "invittions" are hard/ impossible to get but Tin Tops has grids of about 20-22 so they might not mind allowing you to run on an invitaton basis.

Since you're in Lincs, you could worse than join us in the Northern Saloon and Sports Car Championship Link.

Full grids, a huge variety of cars and turbos welcome (though subject to an equivalent capacity uplift of 70%, so you would be classed as having an 1120cc engine).

I am sure lots of other will have told you this before, but whilst it is very tempting to race what you already own normally the car will not be very competitive - but still not a bad way to start racing - if you enjoy motorsport then I would probably find a series you like the look of and buy a car that will be competitive in it

have fun

The novice series which would seem to fit your light modifications is the MSV Track Day Trophy.

We're having a go in the MSV Track day trophy next year so may see you there, class D sounds about right for cars up to 125bhp/tonne. turbos ok but a 36mm restrictor plate required and should be a standard turbo as fitted to that vehicle.
Sounds like a good novice series..

This probably isn't the right place for this, but I've seen mention of the restrictor plate before.
I'm unsure where it should be fitted .... inlet and outlet on my turbo are 34/35mm, but the intercooler has 45mm connectors.
I could put a 35-45mm reducer between the air filter and cold side then the restrictor and a reducer down to 35mm for the intake, but this seems pointless to me. I could fit it between the compressor and intercooler as it does step up to 45mm, but again this seems pointless.

The rule book is a bit vague..it states only that
'forced induction is permitted but a 36mm restrictor plate must be fitted'
Makes no mention of where ?
So one would assume that if the plate was fitted onto the turbo then it wouldnt make any performance difference, or indeed if you can prove the turbo inlet is <36mm the restriction is already in place and no action required.
They seem to be very helpfull at MSVr so give them a call or em.
Also states
'boost must not be adjustable from inside the car' and 'the organisers reserve the right to introduce or modify the size of intake restrictors and intercoolers'
Sounds to me that unless you are winning to easily you're unlikely to scrutineered to closely.
Are you going to run the car on your own or share the driving.
We, me and a mate share an Elise so the series is ideal for us with 2 x 20min stints and an enforced pit stop.
Scary thing is our hp/kg's puts us in class A (gulp)
