A long shot: I need to some up with some in-helmet radio headsets (earpiece plus PTT mic) for use with a couple of Motorola Talkabout handsets. It's for a one-off event in relatively quiet saloon cars, so we're only after something cheap and simple.

Has anyone on here done something similar? We're not talking peltor quality here, and accept that the quality isn't going to be great.

As an alternative, is there anywhere which rents out this kind of kit?

Thanks

Hi,we use bike helmet sets, not sure where they came from but widely available at around £30. Have to tape the wires to the helmets but mic and earpieces come with velcro pads. Just used them for the 24hr and they were great.
If I can find a makers name I'll let you know.
Good luck

That sounds like exactly the sort of thing I'm after. If you have any links/names then perfect.

Thanks.

So will these thinds work around a ciruit - eg Silverstone to pits?

Or is it better just to wire a mobile phone headset in?

If you're looking for coverage around the GP circuit, this is not going to cut the mustard.
PMR446 licence free stuff will give you Woodcote to Copse to Pits, and not much more else.
If you want around the circuit comms, you need a proper radio with a proper aerial on the car, and that means proper helmet kits, etc...

I do hire, but you wouldn't want to pay that much if you're looking at the junk on eBay, and you'd need to buy helmet kits, which are currently on a 10 week lead time (bless you 3M/Peltor!)

PM me if you want to find out how much.
