Top 10 Cars from 4 Decades qualify within 1.1sec. in CT/BOSS
Discussion
It was a stunning grid and race for the Classic Thunder/BOSS Race at Oulton Park last Saturday 25th September.
For qualifying 31 cars went out onto the circuit in cold, dry conditions.
When the time sheets came out the top ten were covered by a mere 1.1 seconds!
Made up of 7 different models of car, with a mixture of RWD, FWD and 4WD from 2 litre up to 7 litre engines, normally apirated and turboed.
Craig Davies joined the championship for the first time in his iconic, immaculate, Xsport ran, Ex Chris Hodgetts BTCC Brooklyn Sierra Cosworth RS500. Craig was scatching his head after qualifying as he was 10th,
normally being used to being around the 2nd row in DMN. Later he had a big grin on his face in the collecting area as he had realised that he was within a second of pole and he, along with the others, knew with a few mods/different setup they may have the pace on another day to take an outright victory in the race :')
The fanastically varied grid, with the top ten being covered by a second reminded me of the heydays in the nineties BTCC. Back then their grid was filled by so many different models, run by works Teams, including Volvo, BMW, Vauxhall, Nissan, Renault, Peugeot, Ford, Alfa Romeo and Honda.
What is more gobsmaking though, is that these ten cars, in all their different configurations, were campaigned new, over the period of FOUR DIFFERENT DECADES!
From my 1979 'Bullet' Sunbeam Lotus, thru to Sierra Cosworth/M3 BTCC Cars from the 80's,
Supertourers in the nineties and the millinium represented by the mighty 7 litre, 700BHP, Aussie V8 Supercar, mixed in with the 3 Subaru Imprezas and a 5 litre Sierra XR8
It was a great day for the Championship, Craig Davies in the RS500 got up to 4th by the flag, commiserations to Andy Rob in the Ford Falcon whose race it should have been today, but went off at 120MPH on the last lap closing on a backmarker too fast and getting two wheels on the grass ending up in the tyres, his first season victory long overdue for the time, effort and money he has put into his car this year.
Big Congradulations to Keith Butcher, in his Ex David Leslie Works Nissan Primera Supertourerfor a fantastic drive, taking his second outright win of the season, he just had more pace than the Sunbeam today, paticulary on the brakes and I was not gonna catch him.

Joss, the Primula was nowhere near till he'd warmed his tyres up, then I think you were done for!!
Andy, sorry about the helmet, Hope you sorted something for Sunday. Any idea what caused the damage, we were all wondering.
