Apologies if as highly likely it's been covered before (I also quickly develop a headache as soon as I try to read The Blue Book hehe, but FIA Standard suit required?

I.e. Good enough for trackdays/sprinting "Proban" jobs not accepted?

Ta

I had cause to ask this question as well recently as I have just started racing,

http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/blueb...

Acceptable standards:
9.1.1. Racing:
FIA 8856-2000

So you need to get one with a 2000 approval.

Cheers Guys, that's the way I read it.

And so onto to underwear ........... any 'has to be this' requirements? - not recommendations like "best make sure it's clean" just in case laugh

Only items checked at scrut' are Helmet and Race Suit, everything else is optional. I always wear race boots, race gloves and nomex t'shirt, but not a requirement

They don't have expiry dates printed on them like harnesses but are subject to deing deleted by the MSA when no longer considered to be up to date enough. The Blue book will usually advise you in advance of those specs that are to be removed though.

May be worth noting that flameproof gloves and shoes are apparently due to be mandatory from 2012

As of this year you need gloves as well.

To sprint. Not to circuit race. Daft old MSA.....

I was glad of that the other week at Cadwell, as I had left my race gloves in my other car and arrived at the circuit without any

I know there are minimum requirements, but was advised this is one area not to cut costs on, so would say get a 3 layer suit as well as full underwear, inc. socks gloves and boots, its also worth going somewhere and trying on as different makes fit differently.
Hopefully your never be in a car fire, but we had a few last year in the TVR challenge, so it can and does happen and every layer helps.

So can I wear a ropey old pair of leather loafer driving shoes i've got to race in as I believe they give me much better pedal feel than my race boots?

You certainly can, but I personally wouldn't want toasted feet in the event of a fire so wear nomex boots and socks.

Spot on. You'll get all the feel you'll ever need from a high quality pair of race boots. With the pair I've got, it's almost like driving in just socks (without the ensuing pong!)
