Race car paint jobs again

I posted previously on this subject and waiting for a few professional quotes.
On the other hand have any of you racers gone down the hand painted route, I'm hearing good things about the Rustoleum and micro roller finishes some folks in the US are achieving. Obviously it still takes a lot of good prep, flattening between layers etc to get a good finish but could save a lot of money that could be spent on the rest of the project.
Would be interested to hear any opinions.

Not sure I'd rustoleum a race car with a roller as it it takes a long time. I've used an aerosol rustoleum to do some prep on the 944 & got a good finish. It isn't bad to work with a cheapy spray gun even an electric jobbie, straight from the gun could be usable without too much compounding. Thin with white spirit. I'm going to do the Porsche with a gun & Rustoleum.
Quite a lot of the guest cars I have been driving recently have been wrapped instead of painted. I'm not sure how easy it is to do yourself (no doubt the same as sticking on a car size decal, and I struggle to put numbers on without a bobble)
It would be interesting to get quotes for a full or partial wrap, compared to cost and materials for a home painted job.

Gladly I can get it in RAL1016... oh yes.

But the Rustoleum colour range is huge. I wanted the 944 to be a cleaner white hence going for Brilliant white or RAL 9012. Also means I can get paint mixed in future if it needs rework.

Do you recon white spirit thinned Rustoleum applied with gun would still be less work than conventional spraying of cellulose? Presumably less prep would be required, imagine probably doesn’t need primer coat if you get a reasonable surface on the gel coat before hand?Gassing Station | UK Club Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
