I am looking at various options for transporting 2 race cars to events next year.
This will be in addition to our Artic which averages 9 MPG...banghead
Due to the increasing fuel costs, I would be interested to know what consumption you get from your truck, from 7.5t to 38t.

Hi Graham

I think my 7.5t averages somewhere around 12 mpg when it is fully loaded.

Probably not much help but, my Iveco based 6.5t motorhome towing a Brian James sprint shuttle weighting about 1.5tons loaded is doing 15-16 mpg driven sensibly around 55-60mph.

my old 814 merc is doing 15-17mpg at 50-55 considerably less if you manage to get it above 60 though..

Wow, my Skoda Octavia TDi does 40mpg towing at (ahem) 65mph! Although it isn't quite a race truck, it is a great tool barge...

9mpg doesn't sound too bad for the truck I believe you have, it must have the aerodynamics of a house brick. If it's any consolation I only get 20mpg from my LandCruiser and I can only tow one car with that and still have to find somewhere else to sleep.
If you want to feel really good, my 32ton truck does about 3.5 to 4mpg, just glad I don't pay for it.

Dont know the mpg figure , but i know it cost less to fuel my Merc Atego 815 to Anglesey (fully laden with race car etc) than it did to fuel my Discovery V8 that followed behind (2 occupants plus race stuff - not towing anything).

Not sure whether that proves the 7.5 tonner is good on fuel or that the Disco is horrendous scratchchin..

Although i suspect the latter hehe.

You didn't mention that the amount of winning you've been doing has allowed you to convert it to run on champagne....

You wouldn't know how to tow at 60mph Darren your foot is always flat to the floor...

back when the fuel strikes hit (when was it, 2000?) i was driving a 7.5tonner and found a shrewsbury garage with stock, i filled up (to the BRIM) and drove 50 miles back to base where another garage had stock, so i filled up again, result = 22mpg, just call me light foot!

that was a box van body, empty, it was an iveco/cargo thingy

7.5 ton Iveco with Radical Prosport on board, a few spares, driver & 2 crew............2 miles to the litre if there aren't too many hills - 9 mpg in imperial.

Speed has little impact on consumption so might as well go as fast as possible.

Considering changing to a covered trailer to tow behind a Honda CRV CDTi which does 11 mpl @ 70 mph.

My big block chevy petrol powered Class A Fleetwood motorhome, dragging my 3.5Tonne trailer returns 12mpg driven sensibly.

2 cars, we're talking Salons? GTs? Spindleys?

Why not get a coach converted - something like a Neoplan double decker?

Can be used to ferry the crew in the lower deck.

Get it on gas then Rob and it would be doing the equivilant to 24mpg. I have just bought a Dayvan with 5.7 V8 and overdrive autobox and worked out towing my heavy chevy and Tri-axle trailer I got 16 mpg at a steady 60 on cruise control. If I put it on gas it will do about the equivilant of 30 to 32 mpg towing. My Chevy Blazer is on gas and will do around the same but doesnt come with a bed lol!

I'm toying with importing a Peterbilt with a 12v91 Detriot up front. Classic truck.... classic engine, you'll hear me comin'!! Eastbound and down.....

I have considered converting it to Gas, Al. I have a pile of tanks that I bought off some bloke in Watford, just need the time (what's that?) to get it all installed.
