Abbreviated Therapeutic Use Exemption
Discussion
Right then, had my medical today flew through it all no issues but it seems my inhalers (asthma) are on the banned substances list (salbutomol & beclomethosone). We read the WADA guidance which suggests I am way below the salbutomol level but the document says you can still fail a doping test anyway. Doc reckons we need to do the TUE thing and he will sign it. Reading the guidance notes suggests I need to do an Abbreviated TUE (H46.9), I can't find a form or anything for it on the MSA website?
Is this likely to delay my license? Use of inhalers must be pretty common. The notes also say I should wear tags saying I am asthmatic, what are these like I haven't seen these?
Cheers

Further reading of FIA regulations suggests these are items for a 'Declaration of Use' to be filled in on occasion of a doping control, as it corresponds with a web form I found on the UKDA website and filled that in, they didn't list MSA on their list of sporting organisations but it can't hurt to fill it in any way I guess. I now have 'Confirmation of Declaration of Use' if it helps with the MSA.
Phew didn't think it would be this difficult.
Will be making some calls on this one though.

I think your right Pete, I will be phoning the MSA on Monday to seek clarification, basically ask do I need to get the doctor to sign the TUE form you can get off the FIA website or is the Declaration of Use sufficient, especially given that the FIA regulations infer that I don't actually need to do anything except make the declaration of use at the time of a doping control. Personally I can't see why the Declaration wouldn't be sufficient since it is what a proper UK athlete subject to regular doping controls would have to fill in rather than someone like me looking to do a bit of a club motorsport. Basically this thing;

OK if it helps anyone I contacted the MSA this morning about this and for a National B first license they say I don't need to fill in a TUE for my inhalers. I asked about the fact that the current WADA standard says one should complete a Declaration of Use for these items and that the international standard doesn't require a TUE for Salbutomol inhalers anymore. He reckoned I should just list what I take on the form but looking at it there isn't a box for this purpose, anyways I promised I would send in the Certificate of Declaration of Use with my license application. Fingers crossed.
