Hi,

Has anyone on here run on R888s to the point that the tread has effectively worn away leaving a slick tyre?

Interested to know if there is still a reasonable amount of laps left in them at this point before the canvass/thread starts showing??

Rob.

I would love to know this too! all I can find is that the tread depth is 5mm... I've got a set that has the middle worn right down bit still plent of tread left at the edges due to pressure cock up.

I ran a set of 888s down to the canvas last year, and there was plenty of visible tread left. Watch yourselves; the wear markers are there for a reason.

At a guess I reckon they'd overheat almost straight away and break apart with that little tread. I certainly wouldn't want to try!!

No, they were fine. I ran all day on them. When i put the car on the trailer at the end of the day i noticed the canvas.

I used up the final signs of life in mine at a track day at Barkston, and on the rough track, both front tyres de laminated, which was the first time I have ever had that happen. slight damage to my front wing, but apart from that okay.

Certainly the grip will be poor, so its a waste. Of time. You are better off buying a harder tyre. R888s only take a few heat cycles before they give up their best running them right down is an false economy you are better off buying a more suitable tyre.
