CTCRC Televised Autoglym Lydden Historic Festival 2010
Discussion
17th / 18th July.
Again this is shaping up to be a cracking meeting with full Motors TV coverage. All the Classic Touring Racing Club Championships will be out including Classic and Historics (Pre 66), Post Historics (Pre 74's), Group 1 (Pre 83's) and Classic Thunder/Ford Boss. On the main circuit we also have races for the Nippon Challenge, BARC SEC Tin Tops and Intermarque plus invitation race. Also some of the racing is to be given over to the Oval circuit and includes a visit from the European Late model Stockers from Belgium with their thundering V8 engines, The V8 Sprint cars and the 2/3 scale Nextel stockers so really something for everyone.
This year it will be held over the whole weekend and the Classics are now into reserves and the others not far behind so a cracking weekends motorsport for competitors and spectators alike.

I turned my back on the WTCC at Brands today and went to Lydden for the first time in about 2 years.
I thought the place looked pretty good and it was encouraging to hear the commentary loud and clear. Some new ( to me ) spectator fences had been put up to improve viewing around the start/finish line too.
As for the racing, it was superb!
The meeting commenced at 09.00 and finished at 17.57ono with a dely having lost about 40 mins earlier in the day.
The CTCRC races were excellent as was the rest of the programme.
Often you hear about the damage incurred at Lydden, well apart from an unfortunate roll to a Dolly Sprint
there was not any damage with the scenery of any magnitude.
Well done to all concerned, including Rod Birley who seemed to get the meeting back on schedule.
I hope more clubs will venture down to Lydden next year but I guess the Dorans might have to take a view on the fees if this is to happen, heres hoping

I was racing there yesterday in the Silverstone Tyres MR2 Series.
I didn't really like Lydden as a track, but I did really enjoy the close racing.
2 top 10 finishes for me sent me home smiling!
Also got to watch some racing and as a spectator, it is spectacular - you can see every part of the circuit from most places. We had 24 cars over a 1 mile piece of track, so there was always something going on.
Cheers

ETA: Anyone know when it's on Motors TV??

I was also racing in the MR2's yesterday, some awesome racing right through the packAccording to the programme the races from the weekend should be televised on 1st & 8th September on Motors TV (Race & Rally UK), it also says that all the races should be available on DVD from the CTCRC Website

As an aside...my observation is often that people who don't like Lydden (AND Cadwell), can't drive.
It's a busy circuit, you don't have time to rest, and you have to be smooth and think on your feet (quickly).
Interesting comment and rather sweeping generalisation IMHO! We only run 15 min races which isn't exactly a long time to be concentrating and exerting ones self (well, I don't think so!) the only thing that can get a little tiring is on the old next muscles (how the hell do you exercise or 'work out' your neck!) - anyway, that's what the rollcage padding and my helmet is for!! Blimey they used my crash on the trailer and must have shown it at least 15 times, it was like Ground Hog Day relived! Did you see the Mini Nascar go through the gate and hit the marshals cars?
I was wondering if that was your car (recognised the avatar pic from ten tenths).Edited by Al Weyman on Thursday 2nd September 11:06
Those mini Nascars are without doubt, THE most pointless and basically st thing I have ever seen.
Whilst I dont have the desire to drive Legends, I can at least see why people do and they give good racing. They just looked like some guys in helmets had hi-jacked a fairground ride.
Its on line http://www.raceandrallyuk.tv/?ref=nf
