List 1 B tyres
Discussion
Need some advice, haven't raced on List 1b for over 5 years and need to buy some tyres, car is a caterham CSR around 560Kgg, 13" x 7" front and 9" rears, what's the best outright tyre for dry and wet grip, needs to last 1x40min race only so longevity is not a consideration, outright performance is, anyone have any informed opinions?
The quickest CSR at Snett was on Kumho,s, the quickest R400 was on Avon ZZR,s, similar results throughout last season althought the R400,s ran on CR500,s before the new ZZR became available. These results were in the dry, not quite sure what Nigel runs in the wet.
Good luck what ever you run on, good set of chaps to race with

cheers Peter, Nigel has been very helpful and advised of what he runs so Kumho's do look like the way to go, i have raced on them before in Kumho BMW but the hard compound and a car with 3/4 the power and double the weight.........problem with ZZR seems to be the rears, 215's only which are probably a bit narrow for a 9" rim and our power .......really looking forward to getting out next weekend, been a long time coming
Incidentally, does anyone buff their tyres?

Soft/supersoft Kumho V70A are the 1st choice for sprint/hillclimb cars. I have never raced so can't directly comment but I do trackdays in my 226bhp car as well as sprints/hillclimbs and use a set of hard compound V70As for track work. I was told by some of my fellow competitors that the medium compound goes off after half a dozen laps - just something to bear in mind.
